POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Development Officer will be responsible for the fundraising portfolios of the President & CEO and the Director of Development from prospect identification through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. He or she will support the Development team by working collaboratively across Martha’s Table to secure six- and seven-figure gifts from high-net-worth individuals and high-capacity institutional donors through understanding of donors’ interests, passions, and values. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Senior Leadership Donor Portfolio Strategy and Coordination: - Advises the President & CEO and Director of Development on fundraising activities.
- In consultation with the President & CEO and Director of Development, proactively develops individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for leadership gift prospects and donors within respective portfolios.
- Manages the President & CEO’s and Director of Development’s fundraising portfolios to ensure all assigned donors/prospects are cultivated, solicited, and stewarded appropriately utilizing a moves management approach – working closely with other Development staff.
- Prepares briefing materials, talking points, donor-facing content (including PowerPoint presentations and proposals), and other support as needed for the President & CEO’s and Director of Development’s donor outreach; ensures timely follow-ups.
- Serves as second relationship manager for portfolio of President & CEO and Director of Development, attending and leading calls, meetings, site tours, and other donor-facing activities.
- Prospect Research & Pipeline Development:
- Conducts prospect research with an eye for potential for leadership giving at the $100,000 level and above; provides strategic input in building out portfolios of leadership gift prospects for the President & CEO and Director of Development; utilizes the Internet, print and electronic sources, in-house files and documents, and interviews with staff – with particular attention paid to matters relating to wealth capacity and philanthropic inclination
Department Support: - Drafts and regularly updates donor-facing content such as case statements and donor decks– ensuring consistent messaging across the Development team.
- Supports donor-related and organization-wide special events and fundraising initiatives.
- Serves as liaison for Development team when President & CEO is involved in the department’s fundraising activities.
- As needed, collaborates with Executive Assistant to the President & CEO to schedule meetings with leadership gift prospects and donors for the President & CEO and Director of Development.
- Maintains complete and timely records of contacts, proposals, tasks and other details with prospects and donors and stores these records in database – for self, President/CEO, and Director of Development. Provides reports as requested.
- Executes other fundraising and donor-related special projects as requested by the Director of Development and the President & CEO.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: - ? Minimum of three years of experience in a nonprofit fundraising environment. Experience working with an organization’s senior leadership and/or major gifts program is preferred.
- Excellent writing skills and experience creating compelling written and visual content; high level
- of aptitude with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Extensive research experience; experience using iWave, Foundation Directory Online, and other similar resources highly desired.
- Experience with constituent relationship management system; Raiser’s Edge experience
- preferred.
- Outstanding time management skills and demonstrated history of organizing resources and
- efficiently delivering on competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive attitude and high level of flexibility and patience.
- High level of sensitivity and discretion in dealing with donor, leadership, and client information.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.
EDUCATION: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent work experience.
