The National Wooden Pallet and Container Association, an innovative non-profit organization that works to promote the wooden pallet and wood packaging industry, is looking for a detailed, results driven, and highly competent team player to serve as Communications Manager/ Director. The position is based at the association headquarters in Old Town, Alexandria and would be ideal for a motivated individual interested in rolling up their sleeves, expanding their skills, and growing their career.
The Manager/Director of Communications creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to the organization’s communication, sales, and public relations efforts. The person will be primarily responsible for ensuring print and electronic media products meet their distribution deadlines and managing the Nature’s Packaging website, content and social media campaign.
Duties and Desired Skills:
Develop and implement communications and media strategies that successfully deliver information and key messages to the public and supporters
Develop and manage timelines for various communication activities to ensure strategic plans are carried out in a timely manner
Careful review of media prior to print/publication.
Work with membership and sales staff to promote the organization to supporters
Assist in managing the organization’s print and digital documents, websites and social media accounts.
Assist as writer/editor for the development, production and maintenance of the organization’s communication vehicles (website, marketing materials, publications, newsletters, etc.)
Design and send emails to promote events, products, programs, and e-news
Monitor and manage social media channels and update regularly with fresh content
Maintain webpage statistics to inform on any management issues
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, Familiarity with web design software, and Microsoft Office.
* 4-8 years’ communications experience gained at a non-profit; corporate or private foundation; and/or publication.
Excellent organizational/project management skills with a particular focus on managing details
Outstanding listening and communication skills—both written and oral
Ability to develop and meet schedules
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Understanding of communications and media strategies
Demonstrated professional and political aptitude; team and diplomatic skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and take an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving
Behave ethically and follow best business practices
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization
Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem
