| Culver Academies, an independent boarding school (grades 9-12) located on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee, Indiana, seeks to fill the position of Associate Head Varsity Rowing Coach for the 2017-18 academic year. This position would work collaboratively with the Head Varsity Coach and would receive training and guidance to succeed the current Head Coach in several years. |
Responsibilities of the position include providing coaching, instruction and technique development to student-athletes on and off the water, supervising rowers and promoting safety, contributing to equipment maintenance and rigging, assisting in scheduling for team training and racing, and assisting in program management and development.
Requirements of the position include two to four years of collegiate rowing experience and previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. The successful candidate should have, or be able to obtain, at least a USRowing Level 2 certification within one year and progress to a Level 3 certification within three years, USRowing assistant referee certification within two years, a valid driver’s license, a boating license, and pass SafeSport Certification.
Culver Academies has an established rowing program and has been a varsity sport since 1921. The team is competitive in the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Association and has sent crews to the SRAA or Youth Nationals nine of the last ten years. The team boasts approximately 30 student-athletes in the fall season and 60 student-athletes during the spring varsity season. Culver’s rowing program utilizes Lake Maxinkuckee, the second largest lake in Indiana, and has exclusive use of the 34,000 g.s.f. White-DeVries Rowing Center that was dedicated in 2012. The rowing center includes locker rooms, a 16 station moving water tank by InRiver, a 2,900 square foot equipped exercise area, and a 2,000 square feet ergometer area with 26 C2 model C/D ergometers. Boat storage includes ten eights, seven fours, two quads, a pair and two doubles. Almost all the shells are three years old. There is a shell replacement scheme in place and an inclusive budget provided by the athletic department. Fundraising is not part of the program.
