Founded in 1999, BUILD uses entrepreneurship-based, experiential learning to ignite the potential of youth in under-resourced communities and equip them for high school, college and career success. BUILD’s unique program offers students a four-year entrepreneurship experience designed to reinforce the Common Core, develop 21st-century skills and motivate student engagement in school. Starting in 9th grade, BUILD students work with their peers and community mentors to develop business ideas, pitch to funders and launch real businesses. As they journey through high school, BUILD provides students with support in navigating the college application process and the opportunity to explore college and career options, while expanding their businesses or opting into community internships.
BUILD currently serves approximately 2,000 high school students at programs located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington, DC, Boston, MA, New York City, and will serve students in Los Angeles in 2017. Over the next 10 years, BUILD will grow its impact to reach tens of thousands of students across the country each year.

Reporting to the Director of Principal Investments, the Manager of Donor Engagement and Individual Giving is responsible for overseeing Annual Giving, crafting and implementing donor stewardship strategies, and increasing the number of annual donors who have the capacity to turn into major (5+ figure) donors. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a key role in contributing to the organization’s growth and ensure that BUILD has a vibrant culture of philanthropy. This position will work closely with the National Communications Team and program teams, and shares best practices with BUILD’s regions.
Successful candidates will demonstrate key competencies, such as relationship management, interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and initiative through a combination of previous education and work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 5 years of experience as a fundraiser specializing in individual giving and donor cultivation and stewardship
- Experience with Board of Directors
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- High degree of comfort balancing long-term strategic efforts with short-term opportunities
- Supremely organized, systems-thinker with an unwavering attention to detail
- Ability to use Raiser’s Edge database
- Ability to organize, prioritize and execute fundraising plan
