Assist in overseeing the overall operations of Bird Arena, including, but not limited to: personnel, maintenance, and reservations, and special events. Students will work in close relation with the Bird Ice Arena Director, Bird Arena facility staff, managers, operations, and equipment maintenance staff to ensure efficient and proper functioning of the facility and equipment. GAs will develop leadership skills among core team members and assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures within Bird Arena. Position requires an average of 20 hours a week – including office hours, meetings, and evening activities and events.

Additional Salary Information: •Graduate Assistant stipend of $11,000 (August 2017 – May 2018)
•Tuition wavier, in state or out-of–state, for the academic year and a summer session prior to or following
academic year (Sports Administration tuition wavers are at the discretion if the college). Recipient must pay student
fees (general, legal, technology, insurance, etc).
•Professional development opportunities: including paid registration to state, regional and national conference, and
workshops; assistance with travel; paid certification and/or membership to relevant professional associations.
•Additional hourly compensation available during winter and spring break, if applicable.
Bird Ice Arena is an indoor single sheet of ice, owned and operated by Ohio University Campus Recreation. The arena is available for both those associated with Ohio University and those living in Southeastern Ohio. The facility is also equipped
with a Skate Room that supplies patrons with skate rentals and repairs, a Concession Stand, a Lounge, a Pro Shop, and a Party Room that is available to re...nt out for celebrations.
The facility has a 1200 seat capacity and serves as the home ice for the four-time ACHA National Champions, the Ohio University Bobcats. The Bobcats are affiliated with the American Collegiate Hockey Association at the Division I level. OHIO Hockey has won four ACHA National Championships, most recently in 2004. Bird Ice Arena also provides a wide range of activities for students, OHIO faculty, and the public. These activities include
Recreational Skating four days a week, Recreation and Sport Science classes, Intramural Broomball, Recreational Hockey, Learn to Skate Programs, Special Events, and Private Rentals.
