Since its beginnings, the Construction Safety Council (CSC) has grown to become a world class professional construction consortium with associations from around the country and has trained over 180,000 individuals. The CSC emerged from the country’s recent economic downturn revitalized with a clear vision for the future. The President & CEO will have the opportunity to work with a committed board and dedicated employees to develop the organization’s next strategic plan and to build upon CSC’s history of solid leadership and the Council’s core mission.
With a motivated and ambitious Board, the President & CEO will craft a high level strategy to grow the organization, expanding the geographic and programmatic impact of its work; broaden and diversify funding sources; renew focus on being the premier training organization in Chicago and beyond; and assist the board with recruitment and development.
The President & CEO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of CSC. We seek a proven executive-level leader whose career in a similar-size or larger national organization has been noted by his or her ability to chart a path forward, exceptional communication skills and a servant leadership style. This person must exhibit success in collaborating with and convening diverse stakeholders sharing common interests and values so that the aspirations and goals of the organization are pursued in a collegial, transparent and highly participatory manner. Direct experience in the field of construction and safety is not required, though general knowledge of the industry would be highly advantageous.
The successful candidate will have a proven record in strategic planning and execution; a creative approach to marketing and branding; strong negotiation skills and a comfort level being the face of the organization. We seek a leader who can develop and support a team of professional employees through effective delegation, professional development and confident decision making. The qualified candidate will possess a high level of business and financial acumen along with experience in continuous process improvement and increasing operational efficiencies.
This person should demonstrate an ability to both raise awareness of the mission of CSC nationally and to support the best interests of construction workers they serve. Experience working with stakeholders to build philanthropic and business relationships would be desirable. Along with these skills, some of the important personal attributes we seek include approachability, authenticity, adaptability, optimism, humility, emotional intelligence, good listening skills and a sense of humor.
An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. Demonstration of continuing professional education, accreditation in a professional field and board leadership in a state or national nonprofit, professional or trade association would be highly desirable.
