The Assistant Dean, Development & Alumni Relations will head Berkeley-Haas's development and alumni relations efforts, including primary responsibility for designing and implementing a strategic campaign plan. Reporting to and working closely with the Dean, the Assistant Dean is a member of the senior leadership of the school. He/She works closely with key stakeholders, including alumni, students, faculty, and affiliates, to direct a new comprehensive schoolwide campaign with an expected goal of greater than $300 million. He/She will lead a team of roughly 30 professionals in an integrated alumni and fundraising enterprise. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the advisory board and will personally cultivate, solicit and steward major and principal gift prospects and major foundation support. With nearly 40,000 alumni worldwide, the task of sustaining high-quality ties with, and leveraging meaningful charitable support from, alumni of the school is central to this role. The Assistant Dean sets the tone for goal-setting, programmatic innovation and team performance.
Generating a broad base of on-going charitable support and utilizing this foundation to secure major and principal gifts ($5+ million) is essential. The Assistant Dean is responsible for developing comprehensive annual and long-term department plans to achieve and grow fundraising results from the current roughly $30 million annually, including the substantive growth of the Haas Fund to $5 million.

- Manages a large and complex fundraising program with a complex constituencies and programs, typically through a large professional staff, including non-fundraising professionals (for example, editors, information systems, public relations staff) as well as related administrative support staff.
- Selects, trains, mentors, guides, directs and evaluates staff, and, as required, takes corrective action.
- Manages the full range of development programs and may also manage other external relations functions.
- Conceives, creates, develops, implements, evaluates and manages fundraising programs and strategies to meet predetermined goals and objectives.
- Directs, implements and evaluates long and short-range strategic planning.
- Manages the identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors and donor prospects.
- Manages other external relations functions, such as volunteers, outreach, et cetera.
- Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations, including principles, concepts, techniques and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of design and implementation of identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies and techniques.
- Advanced skills to conceive, design, implement and evaluate effective fundraising programs.
- Advanced knowledge of leadership and management principles, concepts, techniques, et cetera.
- Advanced knowledge of the campus, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives and issues of concern both on campus as well as in higher education.
- Advanced leadership/management skills, including skills to select, training, mentor, motivate and evaluate all levels of staff.
- Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationship within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
- Advanced skills to meet predetermined goals and objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising objectives.
- Advanced political acumen skills.
