Position Summary and Responsibilities: West Virginia State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Football Coach - Defensive Coordinator. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position. The successful candidate will serve as an assistant in all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division II football program including, but not limited to: • The recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes • Organizing, preparing and executing effective practice and game plan strategies • Monitoring and nurturing student-athletes’ academic and personal growth and development • Managing successfully the daily operations: budgeting, scheduling, and travel arrangements • Supervising assistant coaches and other support staff • Fund raising, Alumni engagement, and community service Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, Master’s preferred. A valid driver's license, official academic transcript(s) and the successful result of a background check are mandatory. Minimum of 5-7 years coaching, with defensive coordinator experience at the collegiate level; demonstrated ability to recruit and retain student-athletes who are committed to academic and athletic excellence; experience with fundraising and/or alumni relations. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills as well as demonstrated success as an assistant coach at the collegiate level.
