Provides public relations, graphic design, writing and social media support to Virginia Tech Athletics Department in the Strategic Communications Office. Will have the opportunity to oversee the publicity and promotional activities for sports as assigned. Evening and weekend work required, as well as working home contests and possibly ACC and/or NCAA championship events for assigned sports.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. Contributes written and multi-media material to the official athletics Web site, Inside Hokie Sports magazine and official VT social media platforms relative to sports and events. Also responsible for production of game notes, programs, news releases, and maintenance of files and statistics related to the respective sports
Bachelor degree required, with a major in communications, graphic design, social media or a related field preferred. Previous experience working in an athletics communications office or public relations setting required along with familiarity with AP style and experience writing features. Computer skills, using various software packages required, primarily Adobe Creative Suite applications such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. In addition, strong skills in StatCrew and social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, etc., highly desirable.
