Spirit Rock is seeking a dynamic and seasoned professional practiced at seeing the “big picture” and managing its roll-out, the Development Manager (DM) at Spirit Rock manages all aspects of our annual and (rolling) capital campaigns, fundraising events, and cultivates a portfolio of donors (moving them up the ladder of support). The DM works closely with the Director of Development and Communications (DoDC) to set departmental goals and strategy, supports the DoDC in her stewardship responsibilities, and collaborates with the Communications Department for seamless messaging across the organization. In addition, the DM supervises a PT Development Specialist tasked with managing institutional giving and growing our monthly giving program; and a FT Development Associate. The DM’s role is in-service to accomplishing the department’s goals and, for the right person, is poised for significant professional advancement opportunities within the organization.
Cultivate and solicit donors for annual campaign gifts.
Work with DoDC to strategize, capture, and push forward departmental goals.
Support DoDC in cultivating and soliciting major donors, overseeing department budget and developing systems/process for tracking fundraising efforts across department.
Develop and execute campaign recognition and stewardship plans.
Supervise Development Specialist and Development Associate– offering support, tracking and cohesive strategy across the department. In particular, work with Development Associate to prepare fundraising reports and keep prospect contact reports up-to-date in Raiser’s Edge.
Manage and create donor correspondence and communications.
Develop pledge management strategies and processes.
Collaborate with Communications Department and DoDC on effective and innovative messaging.
Write development-related articles and updates for print and online.
Manage development volunteers.
Manage other projects, as needed.
Support the DoDC in all fundraising efforts in future phases of the Capital Campaign.
Be the point person for project management and coordination of capital campaign efforts and tracking.
Develop and execute three-year annual development plan and create yearly calendar of annual fund activities.
Determine innovative strategies for increasing dollars raised through annual fund process (including creative segmentation), including personalized approaches to connecting with donors; and possible peer-to-peer fundraising.
Oversee the preparation of Operating Fund for Spirit Rock solicitation mailings and emails: prepare direct mail and electronic fundraising materials; write solicitations; work with graphic designers and printers to produce and distribute materials.
Implement on-going personal/written/phone contact with major and potential donors.
Determine strategies to properly steward and retain donors; decrease donor attrition.
Manage fundraising events: once yearly scholarship event, every other year special benefit weekend event, and stewardship events as needed.
Produce timelines, goals, evaluations, and follow-up plans.
Manage the selection, hiring and oversight of vendors as needed.
5+ years Development experience with a proven track record of annual and capital individual major gift solicitation (prefer capital campaign) successes
3+ years’ managerial experience of two or more staff
Comfortable initiating new relationships with an aptitude for establishing immediate rapport with donors
Outgoing and communicative, with ability to initiate relationships and network with a diverse community; including an excellent telephone presence
Process and systems thinker
Excellent writing skills
Highly-developed organizational skills
Accuracy & attention to detail
Ability to work collaboratively, and to initiate and take responsibility for and follow through on projects
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
Sense of humor
Strong PC skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Express, Internet research and database experience
