Responsible for coaching, recruiting and managing the Wesleyan College, NCAA, Division III, volleyball program. Teach in the Sports Management program and serves as the advisor of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs, Dean of Students and Athletic Director. Major Duties & Responsibilities: •Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions. •Provide training direction, encouragement, and motivation in order to prepare athletes for games, and competitive events.
•Teach in the Sports Management Program. •Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to volleyball.
•Adjust coaching techniques, based on the strengths and weaknesses of athletes. •Instruct individuals or groups in sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles, such as specific ways of moving the body, hands, or feet, to achieve desired results. •Evaluate athletes' skills and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics.
•Plan strategies and choose team members for individual games or sports seasons. •Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations. •Keep records of athlete, team, and opposing team performance. •Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance. •Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams to develop game strategies. •Arrange and conduct sports-related activities, such as training, skill-improvement courses, clinics, and pre-season try-outs. •Select, acquire, store, and issue equipment and other materials as necessary. •Perform activities that support the team or a specific sport, such as meeting with media representatives and appearing at fundraising events. •Monitor athletes' use of equipment to ensure safe and proper use. •Develop and arrange competition schedules and programs, based on NCAA rules and GSAC regulations. •File scouting reports that detail player assessments, provide recommendations on athlete recruitment, and identify locations and individuals to be targeted for future recruitment efforts. •Identify and recruit potential athletes. •Explain and demonstrate the use of sports and training equipment.
Special Projects and Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and/or assist with special projects and committees as needed. 2. Maintain budget records. 3. Position will require night and weekend responsibilities. 4. Develop programs for student-athlete wellness. 5. Serve as the coordinator for spring game day operations. 6. Serve as advisor and coordinator of SAAC 7. Teach in the Sports Management program. 8. Other duties as assigned
