The American Academy of Audiology is seeking a talented and experienced senior graphic designer to work in the communications and membership team (of 8 total), reporting directly to the senior director of communications and membership.
This is a full-time permanent position with some travel.
The senior graphic designer establishes the conceptual and stylistic direction for design; leads development and design of advertising and promotional materials to support the American Academy of Audiology; and oversees production in print and digital formats.
Responsible for the layout, design, and production activities to produce quality graphic-design, including but not limited to:
Audiology Today magazine (at least 6 times per year)
Departmental inserts for magazine (3-4 per year)
Conference printed and digital materials
Direct mail, posters, postcards, flyers, forms
Departmental in-house ads
E-Newsletter and Web ads
Brochures, forms, applications, stationery
Participate in all phases of the design process, concept through execution for ad-hoc creative projects.
Drive Academy branding.
Manage production, including RFP process to ensure competitive bidding, selecting printers/vendors, uploading files, reviewing proofs, and scheduling delivery.
Troubleshoots production problems and interacts with company's staff and outside vendors.
Maintain production schedules, including tracking job status and updating schedules.
Collaborate with other staff members to discuss project objectives, budgets, and schedules
Create design solutions that successfully meet marketing and communications needs within budget parameters.
Oversee freelance or contract talent as needed.
Assist the Information Systems Manager in maintaining Mac system and upgrading software.
Actively participate in staff and department meetings.
Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat).
Understanding of InCopy workflow.
Experience with MS Office.
Proficiency with Mac equipment.
Ability to prioritize and participate in team environment developing print and online communications.
Knowledge of typography and print production.
Preparing web graphics.
Excellent organizational skills.
Good proofreading skills.
Good verbal communication.
Must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design with 5-8 years of experience in graphic design (print and electronic). Solid experience with editorial design, typography, and color theory. Understanding of printing technology, including presswork, proofing, and varnish techniques.
