The Senior Accountant performs professional-level, complex accounting activities and financial analyses in support of real estate transfer, sales, and lodging tax revenue collection operations, compliance reporting, and enforcement of non-compliance, as necessary. This position is responsible for preparing and updating monthly statistical and financial reports for management and Town Council, and assisting with special projects and providing support in other finance-related functions as assigned.
The Senior Accountant provides accounting support to the Finance Manager and Finance Director; work performed is under the general direction and supervision of the Finance Manager with occasional interaction and direction from the Finance Director.
Sales and Lodging Tax:
Sales tax and lodging support includes, short-term rental and business license compliance, tax delinquencies and Municipal Court process, tax auditing programs and desk audits. Functions as MUNIRevs software administrator, assists Accounting Assistant with month-end reconciliations and reporting. Works closely and collaborates with Community Development staff for contractor business licensing and compliance, supplier verification list follow-up, large construction project licensing and short-term rental zoning issues. Attends CML Sales Tax Committee and CO Tax Auditor Committee meetings.
Real Estate Transfer Tax:
Real estate transfer tax support involves managing all aspects of Real Estate Transfer Tax including, general public inquiry, review and authorization of exemption applications, review and reconciliation of monthly Eagle County real estate transactions and filing of liens and lien releases and is performed under the direction of the Finance Director.
Supports the accounting division with monthly accounting duties including review and posting of batch processes, bank reconciliations, account reconciliation, preparation and posting of journal entries, and monthly close-out. Cross-trained in other areas of Finance including accounts payable, payroll and cash receipting. Serves as backup position to the Finance Manager. Assists with preparation of annual audit work papers and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
Other Duties and Functions
Additional duties include, maintaining sufficient education and training in all areas of responsibilities, remaining abreast of applicable Avon Municipal Code sections, interpreting tax and revenue regulations, recommending tax policy and procedure changes, updating monthly statistical spreadsheets and preparing monthly reports, conducting taxpayer educational meetings, and updating website content. Possible future supervisor duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
