The Executive Director of Development, Schools and Units (EDOD) will lead, develop and mentor the development staff for twelve schools and colleges (Agriculture and Natural Resources, Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Arts and Humanities including The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences, Education, the I-School, Journalism, University Libraries, Public Health, Public Policy, and Student Affairs.
S/he will manage those frontline fundraisers who are responsible for meeting campaign goals by soliciting major gifts and developing donor pipelines. The Executive Director will help ensure the success of these units by setting clearly defined measurable goals for these units and monitoring and measuring fundraising progress and productivity, evaluate results and work with the senior development officers to address challenges and ensure success. The EDOD will provide strategic direction and leadership for the fundraising team for each of these units. S/he will work with the Assistant Vice President for Development on strategy and goal setting within the units and provide regular progress updates. The EDOD will partner with college and school deans to ensure units have effective and productive development operations. On occasion the Executive Director will assume chief development officer responsibilities when a key vacancy occurs in a school/college.
This position will also be responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of staff training programs.
The EDOD will also serve as the primary University Relations liaison with Maryland Hillel to ensure there are coordinated strategic prospect approaches, regular and open communication, and support as appropriate to the requirements of the agreement of affiliation between the University of Maryland College Park Foundation and Maryland Hillel.
The Executive Director must have ability to work after hours and occasional travel (10%).
