Associate Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship
The George Mason University Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time Associate Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship position. - Staffing the Nominating and Governance Committee of the George Mason University Foundation Board of Trustees and assisting with board orientation and education;
- Developing, implementing, executing, managing and evaluating communication and recognition programs for individual and group special constituency donors in collaboration with the Executive Director of Donor Relations and Advancement Communications;
- Conceptualizing and executing appropriate donor recognition activities for individual and group special constituency donors in collaboration with the Executive Director of Donor Relations and Advancement Communications and Director of Advancement Programs;
- Designing, implementing, and evaluating metrics and data related to special constituency donors in conjunction with the Executive Director of Donor Relations and Advancement Communications and the Advancement Services team;
- Working collaboratively with schools/colleges, the George Mason University Foundation and other campus stakeholders to execute best practice communications and recognition activities for special constituency donors;
- Overseeing the preparation of invitation lists, mailing lists, and data reports for use in all individual and group special constituency donor relations and stewardship activities;
- Preparing, periodically reviewing, and updating departmental processes and procedures as related to special constituency donor relations efforts;
- Creating, implementing, and maintaining systems to assist directors of development with donor relations and stewardship efforts;
- Fostering lasting relationships between George Mason University and its donors, and promoting positive attitudes toward giving;
- Remaining current on donor relations and stewardship trends, strategies and services offered by other educational institutions and nonprofits; and
- Other duties as pertinent and necessary.
- Master's degree, preferably in English, communications or journalism; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience;
- Strong editing and writing skills as demonstrated through writing samples;
- Occasional staffing of events and other work outside of normal business hours;
- Should be creative, proactive, strategic, detail-oriented and consistent with a strong commitment to quality, timeliness, efficiency and effectiveness;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and mature judgment;
- Should be a critical and strategic thinker and possess strong time management skills, as well as a professional and courteous demeanor and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout campus; and
- Ability to maintain working knowledge of best practices in the field of donor relations and stewardship.
- Several years (five or more is preferred) working in donor relations and stewardship;
- Previous experience in higher education advancement, strategic communications and event planning; and
- Familiarity with Advance and iModules.
