The Membership Director is responsible for strategy and execution of all membership development, recruitment, on-boarding, and retention programs. The incumbent will strengthen existing relationships with members; identify and implement business-generating opportunities; and pursue member services-related qualitative/quantitative research.
This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is part of the management team. The incumbent will work in a highly collaborative organization providing support to, and building partnerships with, other staff and highly engaged members.
The position is located at our office in Schaumburg, IL and will include domestic and international travel of 10 – 15 percent on average. Telecommuting will be considered for the right candidate.
Be accountable for developing and implementing member recruiting and retention programs.
Understand the HTNG value proposition and identify potential members’ business needs, products and sales channels in order to tailor persuasive recruiting messages.
Lead efforts with internal departments to identify and recruit new members and manage membership pipeline.
Develop and achieve annual dues revenue budget.
Reduce membership churn by developing an effective on-boarding program to increase member engagement in workgroups and events.
Ensure timely and effective resolutions to member issues and advise senior management on full range of member-related matters.
Develop metrics and be accountable for managing recruiting, retention and other defined goals achievement.
Facilitate Vendor Advisory Council and Membership Council
Sell and manage Platinum Plus program and other non-dues related revenue generation programs.
Explore closely adjacent industries as sources of new members.
Partner with marketing team to design, produce and manage compelling recruiting and retention marketing materials
Ensure highest quality membership database through training of colleagues on proper usage, supervising work of the membership database coordinator, and practicing excellent data entry and hygiene habits.
Oversee upgrades of all member-related processes, records, support systems and related materials
Minimum three years full-time experience with senior member services and/or relationship management experience
Strong interpersonal, listening and relationship management skills
Demonstrated expertise growing a membership base, preferably in a trade association
Customer-focused and results-oriented leader
Analytical and project management experience with the ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously, both autonomously and as part of a team
Strong budget planning and execution skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Team player; open minded, collaborative and inclusive
Proficient in Microsoft Office
