The University of Southern Mississippi is seeking to fill three Graduate Assistant positions for the Department of Athletic Facilities and Event Management. These positions oversee the day-to-day management of multiple athletic facilities as assigned. The selected candidates will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of their assigned facilities as well as recommending improvements and managing those improvement projects. Additionally, these positions will assist other staff members with the maintenance of other athletic facilities as required.
Athletic Facilities and Event Management Graduate Assistants act as the game/event manager for multiple sports as assigned. This includes all home, regular season NCAA sanctioned games/matches, any post-season NCAA sanctioned games/matches, and any outside, special, or contracted events. This may include planning, hiring and training of game day staff, coordinating with other members of the athletic department, campus community, and local agencies that may be involved with the successful operation of the game or event, and a post-event review and evaluation. These positions also assist with events managed by other members of the Facilities and Event Management staff.
These positions may also assist with booking special and contracted events that take place in Southern Miss athletic facilities. The selected individuals may schedule events, contract with the lessee, assist the lessee in planning the event, staff the event as necessary, and support the event as required.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration, Business Administration, Facility Management, or a related discipline; admission into the University of Southern Mississippi Graduate School (2.5 undergraduate GPA required); the ability to work independently with minimal supervision or as a member of a team; the ability to prioritize assignments; the ability to apply good judgment and appropriately represent the university in a professional manner; the ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends; the ability to effectively communicate, both written and orally; and the ability to adhere to NCAA, Conference USA, and university policies.
Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of one year experience working in sports or hospitality; prior experience managing athletic facilities and collegiate games/matches; and prior experience booking and managing outside, special, and contracted events.
