Assistant Director position has a dual reporting line to the Assistant Commissioner of Communications and Associate Commissioner of Competition. This position in collaboration with the assistant commissioner is responsible for the daily coordination of all League communications. This position also reports to the Associate Director of Competition to provide championships support. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serve as primary communications contact for assigned League sports, including women’s basketball.
Administer athletic and academic award programs for assigned sports, championship preparation and coverage.
Assist with creation and deployment of all Horizon League content on all mediums (e.g., website, social media).
Ensure accuracy of information on league platforms, with an emphasis on quality and relevance.
Serve as staff liaison to Sports Information Directors' Committee.
Assist with the development and implementation of the Horizon League social media strategy.
Assist with the content development, production and support of Horizon League digital content as needed.
Assist with the development of conference marketing and promotional plans.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Relevant experience in college sports communications preferred, ideally in a conference office setting.
Experience in event management transferable to championship events.
Exceptional oral and written communications skills with advanced knowledge of AP style.
Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA rules.
Collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work well with a variety of constituent groups (SIDs, athletic directors, senior woman administrators, members of the media, coaches, NCAA staff, etc.).
Ability to manage multiple time demands and prioritize tasks.
Innovative and strategic social media experience with verifiable results.
Knowledge of current social media trends and platforms.
Willingness to travel and work on weekends, vacations and holidays, as needed.
Ability to embrace and lead through change.
Advanced knowledge of computer software applications and programs, including but not limited to: Adobe CC, StatCrew, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.
Knowledge of a variety of sports and their associated statistics and terminology.
Basic understanding of graphic design principles.
Previous experience with video, including shooting and editing, is preferred.
General knowledge of television production and streaming workflows.
Editorial judgement for distribution of press releases, social media posts and website content.
