One of the most dynamic and successful political action committees in Illinois is seeking a Director of Fundraising & Major Gifts to join our team and help us build a sustainable fundraising program to significantly increase revenues. The Director of Fundraising & Major Gifts will report to the President and CEO and work collaboratively with the Board and staff to develop and execute the organization’s fundraising and major gifts strategies and plans.
Develop and manage a multi-year fundraising and major gifts plan, which includes strategies, tactics, goals/benchmarks, investment recommendations, and budget focused on retaining and upgrading existing donors and significantly expanding donors at all levels. The plan will assess the efficacy of an “annual appeals” campaign, build upon successful fundraising events and identify new event opportunities based on the appropriate return on investment.
Assess on an annual basis the current donor base and capacity to give as well as donor prospects at all levels with specific targets annually.
Work with President & CEO to build the infrastructure needed to achieve fundraising strategies and plans, e.g. staff, outreach and communications channels including web based marketing, social media, PR, CRM data base with tracking systems for contributions and follow up, and develop and manage process to hire consultants as needed to meet increased goals for fundraising, marketing, and communications.
Work with President & CEO and board to develop cultivation and “ask” strategies, and training as required, to target major donors.
Develop and manage process to monitor and evaluate all goals/benchmarks for positive return on investment annually.
Effectively meet all goals/benchmarks and budgets.
Attend organization functions and meetings as required.
Qualifications and Job Standards:
Bachelor’s degree + and minimum of seven to ten years’ experience with a large organization in building a sustainable, and measurable fundraising program e.g. major gifts, new donor acquisition, donor retention and upgrades.
Able to think strategically and creatively, and execute tactically.
High energy and drive; self-motivated and results oriented.
Strong analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills to cultivate and manage relationships with key constituencies e.g. Board, staff, and donors.
High level written and verbal communication skills as well as ability to listen.
Database development and management experience.
Willingness to spend additional hours as needed for events, board meetings, and donor cultivation as needed.
