ASSISTANT DEAN, DEVELOPMENT AND ALUMNI RELATIONS, COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Development (AVP), the Assistant Dean for Development & Alumni Relations at the College of Communication is chiefly responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting prospects to secure leadership and principal gifts. Working with the College of Communication dean, the Vice President for Development, the AVP, the Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) staff, and volunteers, the Assistant Dean will create, plan, advance and implement a wide range of fund raising activities, strategies, programs and priorities in concert with the Campaign for Boston University in support of the College of Communication’s Strategic Plan.
This position will actively maintain a portfolio of leadership and principal gift prospects and cultivate, solicit and steward them on behalf of the College of Communication. This includes crafting proposals for leadership/principal gift solicitations and preparing other fund-raising materials for the College, as well as actively directing all facets of the College’s comprehensive Campaign.
Managing and developing the College of Communication Leadership Gift Officer and Senior Staff Coordinator, the Assistant Dean will play a primary role in managing and tracking specific fundraising initiatives as agreed by the Dean and Assistant Vice President in accordance with the University’s and the College’s strategic plan. This role serves as the College of Communication’s information resource for Development and Alumni Relations, including providing communication about specific centers and programs as well as overarching College-wide initiatives, coordinating with the Regional Leadership Gift Officers, Planned Giving Officers and the Corporate Relations & Foundation Relations Offices in their development activities on behalf of the College of Communication and assist with linkage to the College’s faculty and staff as needed to advance prospect activity.
The Assistant Dean will manage the budget, supervise office and fulfill administrative duties as required by DAR, College of Communication and BU-wide operating procedure, as well as serve as member of College of Communication’s senior leadership team representing DAR in certain College faculty meetings and via other assignments as deemed critical to the fundraising and alumni relations agenda as set by the Dean and the AVP. Serve as key external spokesperson for the College.
