Responsible for providing strategic leadership and overseeing significant business and resource functions, operations, and activities, including capital projects, facilities and operations, game operations and event management, budget planning and financial management, information technology and equipment operations of Dartmouth College Athletics and Recreation Department (DCARD) to ensure effective alignment of resources with strategic priorities. Directs and oversees the planning and development, management, operations, and maintenance of all College sports and recreational buildings, facilities, and fields, promoting customer accessibility and utilization within established priorities while maximizing revenue generation opportunities, ensuring cost effective operations, and safety/risk management controls. Develops the short and long-term budget plans and oversees the implementation of these plans across all areas of operation. Provides guidance on resource allocation to support departmental and divisional priorities; collaborates with executive team and senior staff and budget managers within Athletics and Recreation and across the institution to achieve financial and budgetary objectives.
Business Strategy
Percentage Of Time: 50%
Collaborates with the Director of Athletics and Recreation to develop and implement the resource strategy of the Department of Athletics and Recreation in support of a robust athletics and physical education experience for Dartmouth students, ensuring strong communication, integration, and teamwork across DCARD and the College.
Serves as a trusted advisor to the Director of Athletics and Recreation regarding the resource strategy of the department.
Serves as a member of the DCARD Executive Team and leads the efforts in forecasting, monitoring, and managing all of the department’s daily and long-term resource activities.
The focus of the position will include leadership and strategic oversight to the following areas: business operations, business innovation, equipment operations, and information technology support for athletics.
In consultation with the Director of Athletics and Recreation and Chief Development Officer, this position also collaborates with our development team to develop priorities for fundraising and effective gift management strategies.
Strong concentration of the role will be on long term financial planning (3-5 years); reporting and measuring, to include establishing key financial performance indicators, executive reporting and market analysis; revenue generation forecasting and modeling; and overseeing trend and data analysis to maximize current and future resources.
The position will also be expected to lead a focus on continual process improvements to ensure operational efficiencies and sound business practices to safeguard the financial assets of the organization.
Incumbent will collaborate extensively with internal and external partners on maximizing the department’s revenue growth opportunities through sponsorships, licensing, and other external partnerships.
Role will be responsible for engaging with college financial leadership, campus partners and NCAA and Ivy League colleagues on all financial matters, planning, reporting, etc. as necessary.
The position ensures the integration and compliance of the department’s financial and accounting activities with those of the College and works proactively to mitigate audit risks and ensure compliance.
Position will be responsible for preparing and delivering budget and financial presentations to College and other internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the role will consistently engage with a peer network in the industry for benchmarking and sharing of best practices.
Serves as primary liaison with the President’s Office and Budget Office on matters involving operating and capital budgets. Communicates and implements college fiscal policies and controls throughout the department.
Develops strategies to maximize financial resources to meet Athletics and division objectives.
Maintains effective working relationships with fiscal officers across the institution, including the Finance Center, the Budget, Investment and Controller’s offices.
Serves on college-wide committees and ad hoc working groups.
Finance, Capital Projects, Facilities, Events, Equipment, and IT Management
Percentage Of Time: 30%
Oversees annual zero-based budgeting process for the DCARD in accordance with the college’s budget timeline.
Monitors resource allocation and prepares financial forecasts adjusting in revenue and/or expense to resolve financial problems as they develop and ensures attainment of expected year-end results and goals.
Oversees and manages full-time staff in the Athletic Finance Office, Events & Facilities, Equipment and IT Operations and provides guidance, direction, and professional development when applicable.
Oversees and manages DCARD Equipment Operations to ensure best practices and industry standards, including but not limited to: managing and developing staff, strategy to ordering of apparel and equipment, inventory controls/management, and customer service.
Develops and implements inventory management, lifecycle replacement, and department-wide strategies within Information Technology operations.
Evaluates the facilities on a continuing basis to identify existing and foreseeable needs for repair, replacement, up-grade, and new construction to meet department goals and objectives.
Collaborates with The Office of Planning, Design and Construction, Facilities Operations and Management (FO&M) and other campus constituencies on development of designs, plans, and specifications for projects.
Serves as departmental management liaison for all construction and renovation projects.
Collaborates with the Director of Athletics and Recreation, senior athletics department staff, and the President’s Office to direct the general use and operation and the controlled access use of individual facilities, including the development, implementation, and enforcement of operating policies and procedures.
Varsity Sport Administration
Percentage Of Time: 20%
Sport Oversight responsibilities and duties for selected Varsity Sports Teams, including but not limited to:
Supervision and evaluation of coaches, scheduling, budget development, and oversight, regular evaluation of program resources and performance goals, strategic planning, and management of student-athlete grievances and issues.
Providing leadership, directing, and establishing meetings with coaching staff
Traveling with team
Attending practices
Building rapport with students and support staff

Requirements:
Master’s degree in business or finance.
7+ years of executive financial leadership experience.

Excellent computer skills – strong Excel, database and financial systems experience.
