Job Title: Vice President for Development, ASHP Foundation Reports to: Chief Executive Officer, ASHP Foundation Job Summary: The Vice President for Development, ASHP Foundation is responsible for leading the ASHP Foundation’s (Foundation) overall development program which includes the planning and implementation of the annual giving, planned giving, events and corporate giving. Serve as a member of the Foundation’s leadership team. Functional Responsibilities: - Develops annual goals and objectives for the assigned division. Directs and monitors the accomplishment of the annual goals and objectives and communicates changes and/or barriers to achieve the desired outcomes.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of broad operational policies and procedures for assigned ASHP division. Administers established operating policies, procedures, and practices to help ensure compliance within the assigned division.
- Participates in the preparation of the annual operating budget for an assigned ASHP division. Responsible for the division’s actual budgetary performance against approved budget targets.
- Recommends staffing levels and an organizational structure for an assigned work division. Recommends personnel actions affecting subordinate employees within an assigned division. Is accountable for career planning and staff development for all divisional employees. Responsible for setting employee performance objectives, conducting performance reviews and recommending pay actions for direct reports.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities: - Pro-actively seeks to understand the role of ASHP and the Foundation in advancing health-system pharmacy practice, as well as the role of the Foundation within ASHP.
- Proposes an annual, and comprehensive, development plan (including budget) for the Foundation including annual giving, planned giving, events and corporate giving.
- Leads implementation of the annual fundraising plan, provides routine updates to the Foundation CEO, monitors and reports on budget performance. Develops systems and procedures to maximize fundraising efficiency, results, and reporting.
- Develops personal relationships with a portfolio of leadership donors for the purpose of soliciting gifts including major corporate prospects, major donors and planned giving donors. Partners with the Foundation’s CEO and Vice President for Programs, as well as ASHP senior leaders, as needed, to make solicitations in support of specific programs in the Foundation and ASHP.
- Develops and implements annual operating plans for key Foundation fundraising programs (annual giving and planned giving) that target ASHP members for support including solicitation and promotional schedules, messaging, and donor recognition. Works with the Foundation’s and ASHP’s communication teams to coordinate activities and consistency of messaging.
- Develops and implements an annual operating plan for the Corporate Partners Program to maximize participation in the program including coordination of Partner recognition, Partner benefits, and annual Partner meetings.
- Develops and implements an annual schedule of events to promote the Foundation to the ASHP members and encourage contributions.
- Recruits and develops individuals as part of an expanding volunteer fund-raising structure. Develops and manages a volunteer program that yields satisfaction and renewed commitment to Foundation service.
- Directs and oversees the Foundation’s donor management system inclusive of gift processing, donor acknowledgement and donor history.
- Represents the Foundation to external audiences where the mission and programs of the Foundation can be promoted. This can include speaking engagements, attendance at events and conferences, and presentations.
- Serves on appropriate Foundation and ASHP committees as assigned. Coordinates activities and programs with relevant departments within ASHP.

Attends the Foundation’s Board of Directors meetings, participates as needed, and provides key staffing to the Foundation’s Board of Directors’ Development Committee. -
Participates in continuing education programs to ensure that new concepts and approaches to fund raising are utilized by the Foundation. - Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: - B.A. or B.S. degree with minimum of five years of fundraising experience. CFRE designation preferred.
- Experience with annual giving, planned giving and corporate giving programs preferred.
- Knowledge of health-care and pharmacy issues preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Personable, mature individual with ability to make contacts with business, industry and professional leaders. Must be able to develop acquaintances and keep confidences of potential donors, corporate leaders, foundations and public agencies.
- Demonstrated record of professionalism and ethical conduct. Has demonstrated successful performance in recent fund raising activities.
- Ability to develop, edit and present persuasive proposals to prospective donors.
- Ability to work well and collaborate with others.
- Ability to travel.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications and related technologies.
- Ability to synthesize and produce reports, issue briefs, background papers, etc.
