About the Department The CSUN Athletic Department empowers more than 350 student-athletes and staff to achieve comprehensive excellence both on and off the field in 19 intercollegiate sports through a diverse and inclusive educational experience. Responsibilities Under general supervision, the Assistant Athletic Director, Finance and Human Resources is responsible for the effective management of financial, physical, and human resources for a NCAA Division I athletics program. The incumbent manages all Athletics department finances including development of annual budget plan, long range forecasting, variance analysis, and cash flow management; reviews and approves expenditures in accordance with campus, Chancellor's Office, and NCAA policies and procedures; develops and distributes monthly financial reports to administration, department heads and head coaches; prepares detailed reports for the University's Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) and the NCAA Statement of Revenues and Expenses; meets with account/fund manager to review budgetary status and develops action plans; prepares year end reconciliation and reports; develops and implements sound fiscal control procedures; provides schedules and supporting documents for the NCAA agreed upon procedures audit; analyzes reports and makes recommendations as appropriate; participates and takes a leadership role in the preparation of appropriate business processes and financial related policies and procedures; develops and maintains strong productive working relationships with the CSUN main human resources and faculty affairs office and works with them to address distinctive needs of the department; provides oversight of Athletics Business Office and Equipment Room operations; reviews and approves the travel and mileage for athletic teams, coaches, and staff; processes procurement card waivers and credit limit increases; creates, processes, and records game guarantees; manages budgets for all apparel, equipment, and screening/embroidery; collaborates with the Athletics Development staff and University Advancement regarding all hospitality and fundraising efforts; deposits all revenue from fundraising events and/or donation deposits; works with appropriate University personnel in identifying and arranging funding for capital projects and other related facilities and issues; manages human resource functions within the Athletics Department including recruitments, appointments, performance evaluations, etc.; drafts and updates job descriptions; updates and implements coaching agreements; ensures the department operates in compliance with CSU and CSUN human resources policies and procedures; ensures Athletics personnel completes mandated training; oversees execution of payroll related transactions; monitors student assistant and work study salary budget; works closely to implement best practices in facilitating the human resources goals and priorities for the department; acts as the initial point of contact and serves as a resource to coaches and staff on human resources policies, procedures, and practices; and performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a job-related field. Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience in a financial or human resources related position. Complete and thorough understanding of PeopleSoft and Questica budgeting, planning, and reporting tools strongly preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities General knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, fiscal management, Human Resources, facility operations and problem resolution. Knowledge of the field of management. Ability and specialized skills to reason logically, analyze, and solve problems of organization and management; plan, coordinate, and independently implement administrative decisions; collect and evaluate data; supervise others; speak and write effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; and handle responsibilities that vary and are complex requiring a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, independent judgement, and initiative.
