This position is responsible for the coordination of all medical services provided to our student- athletes, through the supervision of a team of certified athletic trainers, as part of the sports medical care services provided in partnership with team physicians and coaches.
Support and provide care to all student-athletes, primary oversight of at least one sport (specific team sport assignment to be determined). This includes the education, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athlete injuries; illness prevention and care; and medical documentation under the direction of the Team Physician.
Coordinate and supervise all personnel activities, including daily operation of the athletic training facilities, scheduling coverage and managing logistics for practices and events, and ensuring daily reporting of injuries and illness is accurate and timely. Hire and train athletic trainers on UWM policies and procedures. Ensure athletic training staff maintain current certifications and receive continuing education. Ensure that care provided by athletic training staff is under the direction of a team physician and that documentation and communication follow relevant procedures.
Serve as the main liaison for communication between athletic training staff and team physicians, coaches, and administrators. Serve as the coordinator of the Integrated Sports Performance Team, which includes strength & conditioning, academics, sport psychology and sports nutrition. Serve on Senior Staff and participate in department initiatives. Prepare and administer the annual operating budget for the athletic training function. Oversee the purchase and procurement of all medical supplies, equipment and technologies. Oversee student-athlete insurance. Oversee drug testing.
Provide supervision/clinical education of athletic training students.
Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field. Five years experience as an athletic trainer. Certification by the NATA Board of Certification (BOC)
Athletic Training experience in a collegiate setting. Demonstrated experience working in a multidisciplinary medical environment. Demonstrated experience in positions of leadership. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with strength & conditioning, sports nutrition and sport psychology. Demonstrated excellent communication, administrative, time management and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated administrative experience with insurance and medical record keeping.
