Collaborative, mission-driven, and strategic leader for all educational programming including live, online, and virtual education; creating innovative and quality programming; and implementing agreed-upon best practices. The Director of Member Learning & Education has a critical role in positioning SWANA to meet the needs of current members and customers while also applying emerging adult learning trends to attract new learners.
This position is responsible for successfully executing Education goals and strategies of SWANA, building its accreditation status and fulfilling the continuing education needs of the industry.
Strategic Leadership and Growth of Education Programming
Provides strategic leadership that emphasizes continuous improvement, creativity and professionalism in all education programs.
Oversees all processes during the planning and execution of SWANA’s educational activities.
Participates in the positioning of the organization for excellence in program quality; understands and communicates SWANA’s uniqueness and impact to internal and external audiences.
Leads the development and implementation of a new, modern learning and education programs for SWANA members and customers.
Builds awareness and credibility of SWANA’s new, and existing, learning and education programs.
Evaluates existing training and certifications, based on overall strategy, and oversees the update of existing courses and exams by volunteers and contractors.
Directs and works closely with program staff to ensure the success, effectiveness, and relevance of all training programs. Responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to, researching and shaping content for education and training programs, as well as planning, developing, marketing, and executing training resources, and sessions.
Oversee expansion of in-person and distance learning activities.
Develops a comprehensive plan to expand SWANA’s reach with these programs for both members and non-members.
Develops and executes high quality and innovative education programs.
Monitors programs so that they meet the varied needs of the membership and are consistent with the mission and strategic goals of SWANA.
Oversees education program performance including attendee experience, profitability targets, and outcome metrics; recommend modifications and/or potential new educational programs.
Develops innovative relationships with other associations and partners for delivery of professional development content and collection of knowledge base materials.
Networks with other association and adult learning professionals to stay current on emerging trends and developments in the adult learning field
Researches and develops new initiatives and takes leadership for continual improvements to existing programs. Utilizes feedback to recommend improvements on training to increase overall revenue.
Staff Leadership and Management
Creates and communicates SWANA policies and procedures to Education Department team members.
Supervises and mentors Education Department staff.
Establishes and monitors Education Department staff performance and development goals, assigns accountability, sets objectives, establishes priorities, conducts annual performance appraisals, and administers salary adjustments.
Internal Program Management
Member of the Senior Leadership Team
Works with executive staff and SLT to implement strategies for assessment and growth of all aspects of SWANA’s events.
Works with other team members to prepare budgets for cost centers in the Education Department and consults on budgets as needed in other areas.
Responsible for implementation and ongoing management of the Department’s financial performance. Ensures established educational and financial goals are met.
Works with executive leadership on the creation and implementation of grant and funding requests. Participate in project management and implementation as appropriate to the project.
The ideal candidate has 5-7 years of experience in developing adult education programs. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Association experience is a plus.
