Job Description: This full time, 12 month - with benefits - staff position, under the supervision of the Athletics Director, will be responsible for all aspects of the Columbia College Varsity Swimming Team as well as the safety, development, operation, and administration of the Greer Natatorium.
Coaching responsibilities for the Women’s Swimming program will include commitment to promoting and integrating academic and athletic achievement in a competitive and successful environment, while following the mission and vision of Columbia College, the Appalachian Athletic Conference, and the NAIA. Recruiting and retaining a full roster of competitive student-athletes, providing highly competent coaching, monitoring and developing the academic and personal growth of each student-athlete, scheduling meets, managing team travel, supervising an assistant coach, and managing the team’s budget are essential. A successful candidate will maintain proper discipline during practices and team competitions without being abusive or threatening, and recognize the importance of being a good representative of Columbia College. This staff position will be required to attend meetings on campus, and at the conference and national levels.
Director of Aquatics responsibilities include supervising and directing the 57 year old Columbia College Summer Swim Program, supervising student and part–time employees, scheduling all internal and external facility use, managing the swim program budgets, establishing procedures, provide necessary training, and keep the pool and facility in healthy working order through communication with the facility department and Director of Athletics, while following DHEC operation guidelines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree required. Masters preferred.
3-5 years of related aquatics and head coaching experience preferred.
Certified in first aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and WSI lifeguard training or equivalent.
Certified Pool Operation (CPO) preferred. Working knowledge of swimming pool filters, mechanical systems and the use of chemicals for swimming pool and water chemistry.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Experience in hiring, supervising, and training support staff and developing schedules to assure all work and work areas are covered.
Excellent customer and staff relation skills required.
Strong organization skills required.
Excellent understanding of training systems and periodization required.
The Columbia College Swimming team was started in 2013, and has achieved national recognition and produced All-Americans at the NAIA level.
