Moveable Feast, a 501 c 3 nonprofit agency that provides more than 700,000 nutritious home-delivered meals to nearly 5,000 individuals/year living with life threatening illnesses seeks full time (exempt) Government Grants Coordinator responsible for the coordination, research, writing, and submission of all government (Federal, state and local) grant applications and grant compliance reporting. The position is also responsible for carrying out fundraising objectives as part of a collective team. Position reports to the Development Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct full range of activities required to prospect, prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to government sources:
Identify and develop government funding sources to support existing and future program activities and campaigns;
Perform prospect research on government funding sources to evaluate prospects for donorship;
Manage the coordination, research, writing, editing and the completion for timely submission of government grant proposals, formula grant applications, and response to RFPs in coordination with the Development, Finance and Executive team members;
Work closely with Finance Department to manage reimbursable grants processes and to collect information for reports;
Submit timely, accurate, and compelling grant reports, as the schedule requires;
Establish a research library, maintains grant files and maintains a calendar showing grants submitted, pending, and report deadlines; and,
Maintain collateral material for submission with grant applications.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with community, county, state and Federal funding departments and officials.
Attend and participate in funding and advocacy committees, as required.
Stay informed and updated on current government grant availability, practices and procedures.
Assist with fundraising events (i.e., Dining Out for Life and Ride for the Feast).
Represents Development Department at meetings and community events, as needed.
Participates in advocacy activities that support Moveable Feast’s mission and annual fund raising events.
Participates in departmental and organizational meetings as appropriate.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, writing, public health or a related field required, Masters preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a not-for-profit fundraising environment with an emphasis on grant writing for a major institution. Preference given to candidates with experience in government grant writing with successful track record for securing significant six-figure and multi-year commitments.
Demonstrated superior writing, research, project management and organizational skills.
Experience crafting response to RFPs, concept papers, proposals with aptitude for understanding budgets, designing logic models, and drafting compelling case statements.
Knowledge of government (Federal, state, and local) grant process; pre- and post-award management of government grants; responding to RFPs, concept papers, and proposals; of identifying and tracking potential government funding source opportunities.
Skilled in designing accurate government grant logic models with realistic outcomes and benchmarks; responding to government grant applications; prioritizing workload; soliciting and maintaining grant relations with community, county, state and federal officials; personal communication skills to interact and engage government staff on the phone and in-person; determining potential requested amounts based on information available and provided by the source; computer programs - MS applications and database management, preferred; and strong written and verbal communication.
Able to research new government funding and grant opportunities that may be appropriate for the organization and brings that to the attention of the Development Director; read and comprehend budgets to the point of being able to present and explain them to funders; develop a deep understanding of program content to ensure integrity and quality of proposal writing; work independently; adapt writing style; handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously; gather data, compile information and prepare proposals and reports; use independent judgment and manage and impart confidential information; read and comprehend instructions; effectively present information to individuals and groups; apply common sense understanding; carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; and interact with a diverse staff and client population.
