Reporting to the assistant head of school for institutional strategy & advancement, the director of major gifts will lead fundraising strategies for donors with the capacity to make gifts of $50,000 to $999,999 to the Academy. The director will lead the major gifts team and will personally manage a portfolio of 100-150 major gifts prospects. The director will lead by example in the identification, strategic management, solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of major gift prospects. The director will work in partnership with the director of campaign operations and will work closely with the assistant head of school and the head of school, playing a critical role in Brewster’s capital campaign.
Lead, train, mentor, evaluate major gifts team to maximize the performance and outcomes of those under his/her direction.
Establish measurable goals for individual gift officers; mentor gift officers and track progress to ensure campaign solicitation/dollar goals, visit/activity goals, and related campaign metrics are achieved.
Prepare regular, detailed reports and information to guide decision-making and program evaluation.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of approximately 100-150 leadership gift prospects; develop strategies and approaches to generate higher levels of giving; conduct approximately 12-15 visits/month; maintain complete and timely records of contacts with prospects and volunteers.
Set goals to grow the major gift prospect pool by actively engaging new donors around Brewster’s campaign priorities.
Set clear goals for cultivation strategies for prospects and execute such strategies that result in the highest level ask for the Academy’s fundraising priorities; focus on building long-term relationships with top prospects and donors; provide leadership and facilitate relationships between major gift prospects and the Head of School, faculty, and key volunteer leaders.
Work with the director of campaign operations to develop personalized stewardship plans for leadership campaign donors.
Oversee strategies related to the Academy’s grant writing projects.
Work closely with the assistant head of school and head of school with written communications, proposals, and assignments as needed.
Develop a regional program plan centered around campaign awareness and cultivation of major gifts prospects.
Interact as needed with the Board of Trustees.

5–7 years’ progressive experience in advancement, ideally in an independent school setting and/or higher education
Management experience and the ability to motivate and inspire direct reports
Demonstrated ability in cultivating and securing major gifts
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to deal with multiple priorities simultaneously
Bachelor’s degree required.
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
Ability to interact effectively and earn the respect of all the constituencies of the Academy community.

Ability to meet travel demands of the position
Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed
Knowledge and experience in planned giving preferred.
