Responsible for the management and administration of all phases of a Varsity Intercollegiate Sports Program and team.
1.Perform administrative duties, as follows: a.Supervise and assign job duties to Assistant Coaches, and evaluates their performance. b.Maintain team discipline and morale. c.Make final recommendations on Grants-in-Aid. d.Make policy recommendations pertaining to the sport directly managed. e.Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures as stated in the University, Athletics Department, SEC, and the NCAA rules and regulations. f.Work closely with the Academic Counseling Office relative to the academic progress of the student-athletes under supervision.
2.Perform budgetary duties, as follows: a.Assist the Athletic Director in the budget preparation of the sport directly managed. b.Review monthly budget summary. c.Apprise the Business Office of all expenditures and commitments to ensure that funds are available. d.Operate within the framework of a balanced budget. e.Follow departmental procedures relative to purchasing and travel expenditures.
3.Perform scheduling duties, as follows: a.Coordinate all team travel arrangements with the Deputy Director/CFO. b.Coordinate scheduling with the Athletic Director. c.Coordinate all practice schedules.
4.Perform coaching duties, as follows: a.Attend and supervise all daily practice sessions (workouts). b.Attend and organize all coaches’ meetings. c.Provide coaching and coaching assignments for practices and games (athletic contests).
5.Perform recruiting duties, as follows: a.Recruit quality student-athletes in sufficient numbers to ensure the team’s performance meets institutional goals. b.Formulate a plan to ensure coverage of all prospective student-athletes on a national level. Determine a territorial recruitment plan for Assistant Coaches (if available).
6.Coordinate all recruiting procedures, to include the following: a.Campus entertainment and visits. b.Investigative recruiting. c.Signing National Letters of Intent d.Eligibility checks to ensure that prospective student-athletes qualify for Grants-in-Aid and Admission by the Registrar. e.Correct interpretation of all NCAA and SEC rules and regulations pertaining to recruitment.
7.Fulfill institutional goals as follows: a.Oversee the sports program directly managed in such a manner which encourages the following. (1)Alumni support. (2)Student support. (3)Faculty support. (4)Continuance of national recognition. (5)Generation of maximum revenue to assist the department in reaching its financial goals. b.Schedule competition at national level.
8.Performs public relations duties, as follows: a.Ensure that own and assistants’ (if any) time is scheduled to include promotional obligations to outside groups. b.Promotes athletics by attending functions and activities related to the program as designated by the Director of Athletics. c.Works with the Development Office to enlist support of alumni and university friends for their contributions and/or services to the department.
9.Perform miscellaneous duties, as follows: a.Serve on University committees. b.Serve on Conference committees. c.Serve on National committees. d.Represent the sport directly managed at national meetings. e.Work on special projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Bachelor's degree in related field; at least five (5) years of experience at an NCAA Division I Institution desired.
