The WFH is currently seeking an exceptional, highly-motivated team player and results-oriented DirectorofResource Development – non-for-profit, institutional fundraising to provide organization-wide leadership, strategic guidance, and direction on fundraising and development programs for the WFH and its affiliate WFH USA, including institutional fund raising, membership expansion, and major donor relations.
The Director also leads, develops and is responsible for all operations of the department for this international, not-for-profit organization.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and as a member of the senior management team, the Director of Resource Development plays a principal role in setting strategic objectives and in spearheading the implementation of all activities of the department to fulfill the WFH mission and its organizational objectives.
He/She provides organization-wide leadership, strategic guidance, and direction on fundraising and development programs for the WFH and its affiliate WFH USA, including institutional fund raising, membership expansion, and major donor relations.
The Director spearheads the elaboration of plans, policies, and procedures relating to his/her department activities, oversees the implementation and execution of all related activities, and heads up a team of professional staff (n=3) and world-wide volunteers.
In close collaboration with the WFH CEO, he/she also guides and supports all activities of WFH USA.
The Director of Resource Development represents when relevant the organization with strategic stakeholders at the highest level.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall responsibility for the Resource Development department.
Participation in organizational strategic planning and setting of strategic objectives.
Identifies measures to monitor progress and sets targets.
As member of the senior management team, works with the CEO and the department directors in planning and achieving short and longer term management objectives as defined and approved by the WFH Board of Directors.
Leads and mentors a small team of highly professional and qualified staff team (n= 3) and mobilizes an expansive international volunteer corps to deliver worldwide services to the WFH membership.
With the CEO, identifies and cultivates long-term funding relationships with present and future major donors, foundations, and corporations.
Represents the philanthropy sector at board of directors’ meetings and on relevant committees.
FINANCIAL & STAFF/VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT –
Accountable for the financial management of the Resource Development department: with the CEO, the Director, Finance and Administration, and other senior management members, develops an annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors. Monitors revenue and expenses and produces quarterly and annual reports tracking organizational performance against strategic, budgetary, and annual plan targets. Advises the CEO and others where appropriate, on any corrective measures required to achieve annual or longer term strategic, financial or operational objectives.
Liaises on a regular basis with Finance and Administration on accounting and financial issues pertaining to department activities, including revenue flows and management, cost and expense containment, and other related financial matters.
Under the guidance of the CEO, and in compliance with HR policies, is responsible for the hiring, training and guidance of staff members, the development of annual performance objectives and the assessment of team outputs and performance. Ensures compliance with the WFH personnel management policies and adherence to statutory requirements.
Participates in the selection of and oversees the functioning of philanthropy committees. Involves WFH and WFH USA volunteers effectively.
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT –
Responsible for implementation of all fund raising activities if applicable – membership, annual campaigns, major gifts - of the WFH Strategic Plan as approved by the WFH Board of Directors and/or the WFH USA board of Directors.
Develops annual work objectives in line with strategic plan and annual budget and is responsible for all operational functions related to this sector including planning, prioritization, implementation, and evaluation of activities.
Acts as point of contact for Resource Development department matters and issues with the Board of directors, staff, sponsors, and others.
As relevant to the Director of Development position, assumes other responsibilities and accomplishes tasks required by the CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE -
University degree in fund development, marketing, business, or related field; professional certification (CFRE, ACFRE) preferred
Ten (10) years minimum of relevant work experience and demonstrated success leading and developing successful institutional fundraising programs in non-profit international development organizations (healthcare sector preferred); additional (4) years in a senior management position as functional team lead, or equivalent experience
Experience developing and executing effective fundraising strategies, with demonstrated track record of fundraising goal achievement across multiple donor channels, diverse constituencies and cultures
Strong track record of managing institutional donors (corporate, organizations, or government), including developing grant requests and stewardship reports
A global perspective, with high level of interpersonal capabilities, and diplomatic skills to build/maintain effective networks and working relationships with a broad range of stakeholdersworldwide
Outstanding skills in relationship building; culturally sensitive, aware of different fundraising environments; experience in USA fund raising context - preferable
Strong budget management experience and financial planning and reporting skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (primary language of work) applied to donor correspondence and public speaking; knowledge of French, Spanish and/or other international language/s - an asset
High computer literacy; extensive experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), plus Outlook, internet, and with databases (ie., Raiser’s Edge)
Entitled to live & work in Quebec, Canada
Availability & flexibility to undertake travel mostly in the US, and at key world WFH events (approx. 6-8 trips per year)
