Description: This newly created position within the Office of Athletic Compliance will be responsible for leading Syracuse University's NCAA rules education efforts. In this role, the Director of Compliance will have autonomy to develop, create, and deliver engaging and dynamic rules education programming. The Director of Compliance will also work with the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance to develop, draft, and propose ACC and NCAA legislation. Additionally, the Director of Compliance will serve as the primary sport contact for several of the institution's athletics programs to provide rules interpretations and assist in other areas.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Review, interpret and monitor university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
Communicate, advise and instruct coaches, staff, student athletes and representatives of athletic interests.
Certify eligibility records
Coordination of day-to-day compliance activities
Serve as liaison with multiple offices on campus; athletics, registrar, financial aid, housing, admissions;
Provide legislative and interpretive guidelines for institution
Oversight of specific compliance components as noted
Develops comprehensive NCAArules education program
Prepares NCAArules education documents for monthly Coaching Staff/Compliance Meetings
Prepares and delivers NCAA rules education to all student-athletes multiple times per academic year
Prepares and delivers NCAA rules education to all athletic department staff members several times per academic year
Prepares and delivers NCAA rules education to boosters, constituency groups, and the Syracuse Community at various times throughout the year
Monitors potential and proposed changes to NCAA legislation
Works with the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance to develop, draft, and propose ACC and NCAA legislation
Performs initial eligibility assessments of prospective student-athletes to determine if they will meet NCAA standards
Oversees camp and clinic approval process
Provides NCAA rules interpretations as primary sport contact for several of the institution's athletics programs
Writes violation self-reports and waivers of NCAA rules as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance
Assist with compliance-related projects and perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree/Juris Doctor preferred
Minimum of 2 Years of full-time experience applying Division I NCAA rules and regulations at a Division I institution.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to interact with diverse groups is required
Strong knowledge of LSDBi and recruiting software.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator
