Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) Department of Sports Medicine is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the direction of the Coordinator of Sports Medicine/Athletics Healthcare Administrator and assists in the delivery of sports medicine services to Hobart and William Smith student-athletes.
Hobart and William Smith Athletics sponsor 23 intercollegiate, multi-divisional sports (DI & DIII) with approximately 600 student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work within an interdisciplinary sports medicine team including physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and other allied health professionals. This position is responsible for the health care of assigned athletic teams (to be determined) and assisting in the care of all student-athletes.
Review annually student-athlete health history questionnaires and verify completion of sports medicine paperwork Provide sports medicine coverage for practices and home and away competitions as assigned Provide emergency medical coverage and athletic training services including injury prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation techniques for student-athlete injuries Coordinate physician and medical referrals as appropriate for student-athlete injuries Possess a fundamental understanding of insurance policies and procedures Work collaboratively with the HWS Strength and Conditioning Department to ensure the safe training progression for injured student-athletes Communication with other HWS Departments (Dean’s office, Student Health Center, Counseling Center, Center for Teaching and Learning, etc.) as appropriate regarding student-athlete injuries Maintain accurate and current medical records pertaining to injuries and illnesses Participate in the recruitment and supervision of sports medicine student workers Maintain compliance with NCAA, Liberty League, and other relevant governing bodies rules and regulations as they pertain to sports medicine Play an active role in the advancement of the Department of Sports Medicine
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE approved athletic training education program
1 year of certified athletic training experience
Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
Eligible for New York State Athletic Training Certification
A valid U.S. driver’s license
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with collegiate student-athletes, strength and conditioning staff, coaches, and administrators
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Familiarity with NCAA governing rules
Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field
3 years of certified athletic training experience
Additional sports medicine specialty certifications (IASTM, Blood Flow Restriction, etc.)
CPR/AED instructor certification
This is a full-time, 10-month, benefits-eligible, administrative salaried position. Evenings and weekend work are required.
