The Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) is seeking candidates for the position of Executive Director (ED), to begin employment on or before July 1, 2020 upon the retirement of the current Executive Director.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the ED is the full-time chief executive officer of the Society, responsible for overall leadership and management of the MDS and its affiliated entities pursuant to the Society Bylaws and the MDS Strategic Plan. The ED serves as the spokesperson for the MDS and is expected to maintain strategic relationships at the national, state, and local level including working with the American Dental Association and other state and local constituent Societies.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Providing strategic and collaborative leadership for the Society and its Affiliates
Maintaining an effective relationship with the Board of Trustees
Providing vision and strategic leadership directly and through subordinate management to manage the activities of the staff
Implementing strategies for advocating on behalf of members and the oral health community with elected and appointed government officials
Ensuring the Society’s finances are properly and effectively managed
Ensuring the Society is structured to maximize its ability to deliver its services
The Executive Director’s office will be located at the Society office. Travel within the state and nationally is expected.
The MDS maintains an executive compensation and benefits package competitive with comparable membership organizations. Starting compensation will be based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
Successful candidates must have demonstrated success in overall management of a membership organization (preferably in the health care field) with 25 or more employees and a budget of more than $3 million, or management of significant operational functions of comparable scope at a larger membership organization. Candidates should have knowledge, skills, and experience consistent with and equivalent to completion of a graduate degree program and Certified Association Executive (CAE) credentials.
