Reporting to the Engagement Manager, the Engagement Representative is responsible for cultivating relationships with existing donors, alumni, parents, and friends of the university, with the goal of them becoming or continuing giving to Ohio State, while also increasing annual giving participation, retention and providing excellent customer service. This is achieved through face to face interactions , consistent touchpoints, and creating unique engagements. This position plays an essential role in implementing the fundraising efforts for The Ohio State University.
•Work collaboratively as a member of The Ohio State University fundraising team. •Solicit gifts and provide related stewardship in conjunction with The Ohio State University. •Foster and expand The Ohio State University’s relationship with alumni and friends. •Engage participating and non-participating alumni, parents, and friends through proactive and reactive outreach via calls, emails, texts, chat, video and social media. Meet and exceed established touchpoint and activity objectives. •Work closely with the Engagement Manager to execute strategy and provide comprehensive support for broad-based fundraising, including annual solicitations and special projects for all fundraising. •Build and manage a portfolio of donors to support The Ohio State University and specific needs. •Assist in identifying, qualifying and growing relationships with new and existing donor accounts. • Assist in special projects, including registering alumni and friends for events and promoting those events. •Be an active member of the greater Ohio State/Columbus Community and participate at various civic levels to promote Ohio State (expected but not limited to: Rotary Clubs, Elks, Lions, Business after Hours groups, etc.). •Apply knowledge and understanding of The Ohio State University, its traditions, programs, campus issues, needs, and priorities to the development process. Persuasively discuss academic programs, needs and priorities with current and prospective donors. •Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the philanthropic priorities to effectively present its case to prospects and donors. •Take timely and strategic steps in moving prospects through the gift cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. •Clear and coordinate prospective donors through appropriate procedures to ensure effective solicitation of the donor that maximizes the gift to the University and the donor’s satisfaction with the institution. •Serve as a member of the overall engagement team by collaborating with colleagues across disciplines and other engagement staff on donor strategies. •Assists and/or leads in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fundraising goals and objectives. •Coordinate day-to-day unit-based development strategies and activities to ensure integration into the University's overall development program. •Make effective use of the University's prospect management database and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers in coordination with University objectives. •Conducts research to identify prospects, with an emphasis on sustaining memberships and reccurring gifts, and creates strategies to match prospects' interests to the priorities of the unit and the University.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sports Management, Marketing or a related field from an accredited college or university.
1-3 years of related work experience with a proven track record of high-level sales/fundraising success.
Excellent interpersonal, organization, and communication skills including written and verbal; ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
Ability to present sales materials to large groups and clients.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Demonstrate capacity to manage relationships with colleagues, prospects, alumni and current donors to achieve effective results, including the achievement of specific and measurable goals.
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to set clear priorities and manage time well; the ability to work independently and make sound judgments about prospects, project management responsibilities, and all other areas of performance without close day-to-day supervision.
Proven ability to develop and foster relationships with people at all levels of an organization, and to collaborate and influence at a high level.
Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
