POSITION: Graduate Assistant, Women’s Basketball 2-year position available beginning August 1st, is approximately 20 hours per week and will require weekends and evening work, including team travel. Compensation for this position will be offered as tuition remission and a stipend. The successful candidate will be subject to a background check and driving record check as a condition of employment. The graduate assistant must successfully enroll as a full-time graduate student in the Master’s Program of Recreation, Sport and Tourism (RST).
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assist in all aspects related to the operations of the women’s basketball program. Working with the NCAA, Big 10 Conference and department guidelines; assisting the coaches with day to day operations including, but not limited to in the overall daily practices, workout, recruit mailings, social media, game prep, manager and practice player participation and scheduling, manage and oversee instructional film, film exchange components of the basketball program.
RESPONSIBILITIES: •Assist with on court practice, demonstrations, drills and individual instruction workouts. •Supervise and assign work for student managerial staff (student help). Organize work assignments for the student managerial staff for daily practices and home and away contests as well as instruction on specific video editing software and Synergy video breakdown. •Direct and coordinate practice player recruitment and scheduling. •Assist in all aspects of organization and coordination of the women’s basketball summer camps. •Maintain knowledge of and compliance with, specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position. •Must have knowledge of social media including, but not limited to twitter, Instagram, Facebook, snapchat and etc.
Education: BS or equivalent and acceptance into the Illinois University Recreation, Sport and Tourism Graduate Program. Which includes the following:
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 hours of undergraduate courses.
GRE with min. acceptable scores in the qualitative and quantitative sections
3 letters of recommendation – with at least 2 from academic perspective.
Experience: Minimum two years of collegiate playing experience at any level or relevant administrative experience required. Experience with Division I intercollegiate athletics preferred. Knowledge of HUDL editing system, and Synergy preferred.
Compensation: Tuition waiver + monthly stipend once classes begin. Grad hourly wage until classes begin.
