The Department of Athletics at Southern Methodist University invites applications for the position of Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach.
The Head Coach is responsible for the overall success, performance and conduct of the SMU Women's Track & Field and Cross Country programs in regards to academic, athletic and student conduct.
Essential Functions: Coaching Recruiting Practice and competition. Supervising, planning and coordinating the activities of the Women's Track. & Field and Cross Country teams. Staff assignments and management. Assign duties and evaluate the assistant coaches. Responsible for all areas of budgeting, scheduling and logistics. Compliance and academics.
Bachelor’s degree is required.
A minimum of five years of proven, successful track & field and/or cross country coaching experience is required. Collegiate experience is preferred. Division 1 experience is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to forge strong working relationships and manage interests of multiple stakeholders. Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Candidate must possess strong leadership skills with the ability to provide focus and motivation to professional staff and to student athletes.
Candidate must also possess skill in general administrative duties and budget management, as well an understanding of and compliance to rules and regulations of the NCAA, Conference, SMU and all other governing bodies relative to the position. Strategic thinking and accountability is a must.
Candidate must have strong time management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Strong decision-making skills are a must.
Knowledge of collegiate track & field and cross country recruiting and NCAA rules is essential.
