The University of Maryland is seeking qualified applications for the position of Media Relations Assistant. The position will work as a member of the ICA Media Relations staff, assisting with the development of effective communications strategies and outreach for all 20 intercollegiate varsity programs.
The assistant will serve as the primary contact for several assigned sports, with responsibilities including: designing and writing publications, writing press releases, managing social media accounts, handling media inquiries, creating compelling content and compiling team statistics and records.
This is a 12-month position that begins late-June 2019, paid at an hourly rate of $10.10 which equates to an estimated annual rate of $21,000 with potential for overtime. The position does not include benefits.

Bachelor’s degree required in communications, journalism, sports administration or another related field. Must have at least one year of communications experience, which includes intern experience, preferably in a collegiate athletics environment. Must have strong written and oral communication skills and familiarity with social media tactics. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is highly desired.
