Effectively assist the varsity head coach in the building and leading of a highly successful men’s basketball program, in all areas, that creates a culture of excellence in everything the program does for student-athletes, and embraces the philosophies and rules of NCAA Division III.
Attend and assist in on court instruction at all Varsity practices. Create and manage a recruiting database for both the Varsity and Junior team. Watch game film of potential student athletes to determine if they are a good fit for our program. Weekly recruiting calls to potential student athletes, high school and AAU coaches. Responsible for breaking down opponent game film and submitting scouting reports to the head coach for review. In charge of the strength and conditioning program for both the Varsity and Junior teams. Will coordinate all team community service projects. Organize team travel and meals for the Varsity team. Ensure timely payment of all officials after home game.
Assist Junior team head coach with on court practices and games. Assist with recruiting of Junior team. Assist with game management set-up as needed. Maintain University Safety – to ensure that all filing cabinet drawers are shut when not in use, cords are not across floor without being securely fastened down, all walkways remain clear in the office and hallway with no items hanging off edges or coming out from under tables, and chairs are placed in unobtrusive areas. Other safety features for basketball program. Communications – Acts to facilitate good communications between employees, students, parents and management through interpersonal and professional communication techniques. Confidentiality – maintains the highest level of confidence concerning all matters in the Athletic Department. Does not discuss in any manner any information obtained through work.
This job requires overnight travel for intercollegiate athletic contests, meetings, conferences and recruiting. Weekend and holiday work schedule when necessary. Occasional overtime work required during season and post season play. 75% walking or standing
Bachelor’s Degree (preferred, not required). High School or University coaching experience preferred. Ability to relate to young adults. Ability to communicate effectively and work as University team member. Ability to travel overnight with basketball team. Knows and abides by policies of Schreiner University, SCAC, NCAA. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, related insurance and good driving record. Obtaining a CDL Driver’s License will be required.
