Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institutions, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Graduate Assistant - Athletic Compliance. This is a 12-month, temporary part-time position. This position will report directly to the Director of Compliance. Applicant must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA, and the NCAA. The applicant, if chosen, must also maintain good academic standing within their desired graduate program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs. 1) Assist with the monitoring of academic, amateurism, eligibility, and financial aid rules of the NCAA, Conference USA, and WKU. 2) Provide education and interpretation of NCAA rules, policies, and regulations for students, coaches, athletic staff and representatives of athletic interests. 3) Monitor, audit, and review compliance forms, policies, and procedures. 4) Monitor official visits, ticket requests, phone logs, and contact/evaluation forms. 5) Monitor new NCAA legislation. 6) Monitor policies and procedures of camps and clinics. 7) Assist with reporting of information required by the NCAA and Conference USA. 8) Assist with amateurism/professional sports oversight. 9) Assist with the preparation of NCAA squad lists, national letters of intent, and financial aid agreements. 10) Special projects as assigned by the Associate AD for Compliance or the Director of Compliance.
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success: 1) Experience with NCAA waivers, amateurism monitoring, and international student eligibility. 2) Experience working with the NCAA Eligibility Center. 3) Knowledge of social networking. 4) Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy. 5) Must be able to use Microsoft Office. 6) Strong attention to detail. 7) Must be self-motivated and team-oriented. 8) Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communications skills. 9) Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends. 10) The duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed in a competent manner following the highest standards for leadership, professionalism, integrity, accountability, responsibility, cooperation, and customer service.
Interest in pursuing a career in Division I athletic compliance
Working knowledge of NCAA rules, LSDBi, and Compliance Assistant software
Admission to a WKU graduate program
Must pass a background check prior to employment
Additional Salary Information: WKU will cover tuition and fees for up to six (6) hours of degree-applicable graduate level coursework per academic term as well as any required course-related books.
