Under limited supervision, serves in a leadership role for SWOSU’s Rodeo program. The Assistant Coach will support the policies, guidelines, and rules of the NCAA, the Conference, and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. These tasks are to be performed in a manner to provide a quality program and encourage student athletes in both athletic and academic excellence. The Assistant Coaches primary duties are to have direct supervision over Graduate Assistant, Student Assistants, Manager and student athletes. Also, the Assistant Coach will have consistent use of discretion and judgment when dealing with recruiting, scouting, and all areas concerning filming of games and practices.
• Responsible for assisting with the coaching of the rodeo team in a professional and efficient manner. • Assist the Rodeo Coach with the routine operations of the University’s rodeo program, including scheduling practices, preparing for practices, monitoring/supervising practices, and supervising student athletes on the rodeo team. • Coordinate recruiting and retention of student athletes to SWOSU’s rodeo program. • Assist the Rodeo Coach with the management & maintenance of SWOSU rodeo facilities, assisting the Coach to ensure that supplies for the rodeo team are appropriately acquired and received, identifying maintenance issues that require Physical Plant work orders and reporting these issues to the Head Coach as they arise. Ensure all equipment and facilities are appropriately used. • Responsible for the management and care of practice livestock. • Supervise student employees, including performance and mentoring and being a positive role model of student athletes and student assistants. • Monitor academic progress of student athletes. • Assist in fundraising efforts for Rodeo Team and Athletic Department. • Promote and adhere to NIRA rules and regulations. • Cultivate a positive and professional relationship with boosters. • With the Head Coach and Athletic Director, oversees a competitive rodeo program and worthwhile training and educational experience for all participants. • Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director in matters pertaining to the Rodeo program. • Assist in repairing, maintaining and improving the condition of the rodeo facilities and equipment. • Notify Director or Human Resources of any potentially dangerous equipment, practices, or violations of safety procedures.
