The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) is looking for a full-time rock-star Budget and Grants Manager for our global public health programs department. Based in Washington, DC, ASM is part of one of science’s most exciting fields. The budget and grants manager will provide fiscal, budget and contract and grant compliance oversight for global public health programs.The incumbent would also be responsible for accounting and reporting for global and health programs.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, particularly business administration, finance, accounting, Master’s preferred.
8-10 years of professional work experience that includes grants and contract administration with familiarity of accounting and financial reporting requirements.
At least 5 years’ supervisory experience
Strong knowledge of federal grant/contract regulations (particularly CDC and USAID) as well as those of non-federal, philanthropic, and international donors.
Experience in budget development, financial management, and analysis methods that include experience with financial management systems.
Prior experience managing, training and mentoring other staff, including direct reports.
International development experience in global health and cross-cultural skills are a plus.
Excellent computer proficiency, particularly in MS Excel, Google applications (Gmail, Drive), Office 365.
Flexibility and self-motivation to prioritize and proactively counsel program staff on budget, finance, and compliance of projects, to include defining and enforcing deadlines.
Ability to manage several projects concurrently that integrate expertise of the program staff with own expertise in budget development and financial tracking.
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
Hands on attention to detail with an ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and ASM stakeholders.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal and external customers in a professional manner. Experience preparing and conducting formal presentations is preferred.
