Under the guidance of the Director of Development, Children’s and Women’s Health, this position will focus on fundraising efforts to increase support for the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospitals. The Associate Director is responsible for representing and advocating the mission and priorities of the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital, and the University at large to individuals, groups, and foundations. The Associate Director will create short and long term strategies for donors with an interest in supporting the C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospitals while collaborating with development colleagues in other units to engage donors with cross-over interests. The Associate Director will manage and solicit a portfolio of major gift prospects, and will plan systematic, appropriate and effective solicitation strategies for these prospects while qualifying new prospects through discovery visits. The Associate Director is a co-lead for the CHAMPS for Mott Culinary Gala. The Associate Director will assist with the development and implementation of key initiatives, stewardship, annual giving, communication and marketing initiatives on behalf of fundraising priorities
Implement a comprehensive multi-year fundraising plan to increase philanthropic support for the Department of Pediatrics, specifically Adolescent Medicine, Congenital Heart Center and Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics by working closely in coordination and collaboration with the Directors, Department Chair, Division Chiefs, lead faculty and Administrators.
Create an annual plan for fundraising by working closely in coordination and collaboration with faculty and lead administrators.
Gather data, assess prospects, and develop strategies designed to realize the current and life-time giving potential of individual prospects.
Aggressively identify, and formally qualify, new major and planned gift prospects by developing and executing long-range and short-range strategy designed to realize the current and life-time giving potential of individual prospects as well as to produce a continuous pipeline of donors capable of making significant gifts.
Have a comprehensive understanding of the Department and Hospital development priorities and make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific Michigan Medicine and University needs.
Donor & Prospect Management
Personally maintain a portfolio of approximately 125-200 major and planned gift prospects, maintaining frequent contact with prospects, university leaders, and volunteers spending approximately 70%-80% of time on direct fundraising efforts.
Conduct a minimum of 120 face to face visits with prospects and donors per year and participates in approximately 20 – 40 solicitations per year with gifts ranging from $100K - $1M or more.
Increase philanthropic support for research, education, and patient care for the benefit of the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospitals.
Ensure working the donor continuum with consistent and appropriate contact, facilitate or complete solicitations, and implement effective stewardship.
Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive, timely and innovative stewardship and donor relations plans for all donors.
Provide volunteer and fundraising board staff support and lead both internal and external groups in the identification, qualification, and evaluation of major, principal, and planned gift prospects.
Provide guidance for fundraising committees and related events and activities led by volunteers whose goal it is to support C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
Coordinate and facilitate activities that will directly result in prospect identification, engagement and successful solicitations, including advising chairs, department heads and development colleagues on the culture, expectations and needs of medical development constituents.
Maintain strong lines of communication with colleagues in other Michigan Medicine and Medical School units, the Office of University Development, and appropriate schools and colleges across the University to ensure effective collaboration and synergy in achieving fundraising goals and objectives.
Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and other development personnel in identifying referral opportunities and supporting the overall Michigan Medicine campaign goals.
Through collegial consultation and cooperation, demonstrate and be a model of collaboration in the development community, while representing Michigan Medicine development values and its unique role at the University of Michigan.
Participate in Michigan Medicine Development events as appropriate.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Five to seven years of experience in fund raising, public relations, and/or alumni relations.
Ability to exercise a high degree of sound judgment and diplomacy, with a commitment to confidentiality.
Progressively responsible development experience in an academic health system setting with a comprehensive development program.
Demonstrated success in raising capital, program support, planned giving and endowment gifts.
Proven success working in a multifaceted development environment.
Experience working in a complex environment similar to the University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine, with proven experience in securing gifts of $100,000 and more.
Excellent written and communication skills with an engaging, genuine and mature personal style.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a proven record of working collaboratively with
Knowledge of the University of Michigan organization, policies and procedures.
