This position will provide direct and indirect management of prospects and donors with the capacity to make principal gifts at the 7-figure and 8-figure level. Plan and manage a focused program to develop institutional relationships with an assigned portfolio of prospective supporters and past donors, with a special focus on prospects at the highest level for whom Augsburg has had little to no contact in the past. Cultivate, Solicit and Steward gifts of $1,000,000 or more. Serve as a "relationship manager" for this group and provide timely support to the President, senior staff and development volunteers in their participation with the donor and process. Participate as a member of the principal gifts team. Through liaison with assigned college department(s) and prospect research strategies, accelerate the development of prospects that have a distinct relationship with the institution.
Solicits and/or facilitates solicitation and closure of gifts at the 7-figure and 8-figure levels to Augsburg.
Grows and manages a fluid portfolio of corporations, foundations, and individuals with the capacity of making outright and planned gifts at the $1,000,000 level and above.
Engages, cultivates, and stewards philanthropic relationships with affluent alumni, parent prospects, corporate leaders with an affiliation to Augsburg and friends of the university.
Conduct high-level interactions with donors and prospects, university leaders and leadership volunteers regularly.
Evaluates various gift opportunities and giving vehicles and recommends the most suitable for a particular donor in order to close outright and planned gifts to Augsburg.
Serves as an ambassador, advisor, and connector for principal gifts efforts.
Creates collaborative relationships with colleagues across the University and interacts with internal partners such as deans, directors, faculty, officers, and development staff, along with volunteer leaders to consult on university needs, to formulate strategies to promote prospect engagement with the university and to identify potential donors.
Works in partnership to generate prospective big ideas, following proper institutional paths to move ideas forward with prospects and donors.
Field responsibilities: Cultivate, solicit and bring to closure outright, planned and blended gifts, Calls will be made on individuals believed capable of making a gift of $1,000,000 or more over a span of time of five or fewer years.
Portfolio management: Develop an annual plan of work and manage a portfolio of up to 50 prospective donors with the highest capacity. Provide timely customer service by maintaining appropriate contact, call reports preparing, written proposals and follow-up correspondence, internal research, briefings for senior volunteers, coordination with team members, and preparation of documents to move philanthropic goals forward.
Development information management: Maintain in a timely fashion through The Raiser's Edge and with the assistance of department staff accurate records of anticipated actions, completed actions, results of constituent contacts, and recommendations or plans for follow-up work.
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
10+ years of experience in direct personal major and planned gift solicitation of individuals and/or corporations or foundations with a record of accomplishment of securing gifts at the $1,000,000+ level.
The ideal candidate has had experience in leadership roles including Vice President of Advancement or comparable.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint software required.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication required.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
Creative and entrepreneurial outlook with a strong intellectual curiosity.
Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including specific experience writing and editing funding proposals.
Master's degree preferred.
Knowledge of Lutheran traditions or experience working with faith-based giving preferred.
