Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. Stevens is a member of the MAC Freedom and NCAA Division III and offers 26 varsity sports (13 for men and 13 for women), 17 club sports, a wide variety of intramural sports and special events, an extensive outdoor adventure program and a wide selection of wellness/fitness classes. Located in Hoboken, New Jersey, a historic small town that is just minutes away from Manhattan, Stevens has an enrollment of over 3,300 undergraduate students.
Position (full-time): Assistant Director of Athletic Communications
Summary of Job Duties: Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications assists with the publicity and coverage of Stevens’ 26 varsity teams. Duties include, but are not limited to, act as athletic communications lead for assigned varsity sports; develop and implement media relations plan for assigned sports programs; develop and maintain the intercollegiate athletics website; write and edit press releases, game programs and contest recaps and features; compile notes and statistics for assigned sports; design and edit graphics for use on website and Stevens Athletics social media accounts; assist in production of internet audio and video webcasting; create video content for assigned sports; maintain history and files for assigned sports; work in conjunction with Events staff to ensure comprehensive coverage for all women’s and men’s athletic events; act as a mentor to Athletic Communications student workers; social media management; assist with game-day operations and management as they apply to media relations needs and the gathering and maintaining of statistics for all NCAA sports programs; serve as an official scorekeeper and other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field is required. Previous experience in an Athletic Communications office at the collegiate or university level is strongly preferred. Completion of a certification course in CPR, First Aid and AED will be required upon successful employment. The successful candidate is expected to complete other trainings and professional development activities as they are offered at the institution.
Applicants should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities for this position: knowledge of NCAA Division III rules; strong writing, editing and communications skills; experience in Associated Press-style writing and formatting; familiarity with Stat Crew or similar NCAA statistical software, including Genius; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products – specifically InDesign and Photoshop; experience with the production of videos using iMovie or Adobe Premiere Pro; experience and skill with social media tactics and platforms; working knowledge of Sidearm or Presto website management systems and the ability to work frequent nights, weekends and holidays.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
