Founded in 1848, Rhodes College is a highly selective, private, residential, undergraduate college. Rhodes is seeking an Assistant Softball/Pitching Coach with outstanding leadership skills that can recruit, mentor, motivate and teach student athletes. The Assistant Softball Coach will organize and implement practices (specifically bullpens) and game plans in coordination with the Head Softball Coach; recruit for softball; and perform designated facility duties, as assigned.
Guided by the Rhodes Vision, the assistant softball coach should build a sense of community and enthusiasm around the program by engaging the student body, alumni, parents and fans. Strong relational skills with internal and external constituents are critical. Other duties include participating in development and fundraising activities with various constituents and/or other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
This position requires flexibility to travel and work weekends and evenings when necessary. This is a part-time 10 month position with preferred start date of July 2019.
Bachelor's degree required. Pitching experience, or experience as a pitching coach at the collegiate level is strongly preferred but not required. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is preferred. Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required. Skills that are required for this job and are in line with the College's mission for example, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks - including field maintenance. Flexibility and reliability - position requires travel work on nights and weekends. Understands risk management and works in conjunction with Sports Medicine and Strength and Conditioning personnel to uphold health and safety standards in the conduct of all activities. Strong teamwork and team facilitation. Supports departmental efforts through collaborative measures and sharing knowledge with others. Understands, values within the team and fosters an inclusive and supportive environment.
