Maryville College located in Maryville, TN, is searching for a full-time, 10-month, Director of Golf. This is an exempt position within the Athletic Department. The Director of Golf reports to the Athletic Director. Maryville College is NCAA Division III, and a member of the USA South Conference. Maryville College is an equal opportunity employer.
Job Summary: The Director of Golf has full responsibility for the general supervision, recruitment, training and administration of the men’s and women’s golf programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrates knowledge and utilizes effective administration practices of Maryville College Athletic Department policies; including compliance with N.C.A.A. and with conference policies.
Establishes good rapport and generates respect among students, campus colleagues, and the local community.
Works closely with the Director of Athletics and Assistant Golf Coach in developing a competitive schedule, sports sponsorship requirements, budget needs, and other administrative areas surrounding the Men’s and Women’s Golf programs.
Provides effective and efficient recruiting; coordinates recruiting efforts through the enrollment management, financial aid, and athletic offices.
Coordinates the issuance and retrieval of all of program equipment in compliance with College policy.
Communicates with the Head Athletic Trainer regarding player injuries, rehabilitative processes, and conditioning practices.
Monitors the academic progress of each student athlete in the program in conjunction with the academic counselor.
Coordinates all publications that revolve around the program with the Sports Information Director and with the Marketing and Communications office.
Files promptly all reports relative to the sport including game and seasonal statistics, season end reports, new records, award recommendations, and other reports deemed necessary.
Assures accurate bookkeeping on all program related accounts; must file financial reports promptly and accurately.
Supervises and secures facilities; promptly reports items requiring maintenance or security to the Physical Plant Director.
Maintains working relationships with local golf courses who provide practice and competition opportunities.
Attends all Athletic staff meetings as scheduled, and works effectively with other coaches.
Completes organization of all trips, including transportation, lodging, meals, itineraries, and off-campus supervision of students.
Participates in college-sponsored or off-campus sports camps and coaching clinics with the approval of the Director of Athletics.
Observes players while they perform to determine need for individual or team improvement.
Coaches players individually and in groups, demonstrating appropriate golfing techniques.
Oversees daily practice of players to instruct them in areas for improvement.
Determines strategy for contests, independently or in conference with others, based on strengths and weaknesses.
Attends program’s athletic contests.
Office hours will be maintained as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Auxiliary duties may be assigned by the Athletic Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ability to work well with others.
Regular attendance is required.
Game Management: Supervises the game management of home athletic contests. Works closely with the head coach, the security staff, and the director of athletics in insuring a safe and fan-friendly environment of each home athletic contest assigned.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Meet with head coach to review management plan prior to the home athletic contest of each season.
Hire, supervise, and schedule all athletic contests personnel (announcer, scoreboard operators, student workers, statistics crew, etc.) during each athletic sport’s season. Coordinating these hires with the work-study supervisor and Director of Sports Information.
Coordinate necessary facility preparation for each event.
Meet visiting teams and officials (referees) and take care of their needs before, during, and after the contest.
Make arrangements and supervise the security of dressing rooms for the home and visiting teams and the officials.
Maintain supervision of home and away spectators insuring acceptable sportsmanship and conduct. Coordinate any type of disciplinary action or fan removal with the MC security office.
If applicable, manage the operation of ticket sales and file a financial report upon the conclusion of the event.
If applicable, supervise the operation of the concessions area and file a financial report.
Coordinate the closing of the facility after the event and make necessary changes to prepare the facility for the next activity.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises the assistant golf coach. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred in a related field. At least three years high school or college coaching experience with golf is required.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills are required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid Tennessee Driver’s license is required, or ability to obtain one within 30 days. Position must maintain the MC transportation driving requirements for the school fleet; pass the NCAA rules test annually; and maintaining certifications in First Aid & CPR as required by the NCAA.
