The Athletics Compliance Specialist (Assistant Director, Compliance) at the University of Delaware is a valued member within the University and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services (DIARS), upholding and embracing the departmental mission of 'Inspiring Greatness Together.' The Athletics Compliance Specialist reports directly to the Associate AD, Compliance.
Under general direction, the Athletics Compliance Specialist (Assistant Director, Compliance) is responsible for implementing a Division I compliance program for 21 varsity sports teams made up of 600 + student-athletes, athletics department and University staff, representatives of athletics interests and other outside constituencies. The Athletics Compliance Specialist will play a vital role in assisting with eligibility certification of all student-athletes and tracking the admissions process of prospective student-athletes.
In addition, the Athletics Compliance Specialist (Assistant Director, Compliance) will assist with the awarding and monitoring of athletically related and outside aid. The incumbent will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of current recruiting systems and will continue to improve as needed. The individual shall have oversight of all recruiting related activities. The Athletics Compliance Specialist (Assistant Director, Compliance) will oversee playing and practice seasons as well as CARA.
Review and revise current policies and develop new policies and procedures as appropriate for recruiting related activities.
Coordinate institutional monitoring systems for compliance of recruiting; including but not limited to off-campus recruiting activities, approval of recruiting materials, official and unofficial visit approvals.
Manage complimentary admissions process in collaboration with UD Ticket Office.
Responsible for playing and practice seasons and monitoring CARA.
Assists with the student-athlete admission process for the Department of Athletics and Recreational Services through daily tracking and communication with the Admissions Office
Assists with tracking initial eligibility status of all incoming student-athletes and communicating with coaches to ensure proper certification.
Assists with NCAA/CAA waivers.
Collaborates with entire compliance team to create and execute comprehensive rules education program.
Responsible for the approval, education and monitoring of all promotional activities involving student-athletes.
Assist in interpreting NCAA and CAA legislation for coaches and staff.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree with two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in Division I intercollegiate athletics preferred.
Interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to plan, organize and implement programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with NCAA regulations.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
Ability to gather and analyze data, compile information and prepare reports and projections.
Proficiency with software applications, including database, spreadsheet, presentation and word processing.
Analytical, evaluative and critical thinking skills.
Working knowledge of NCAA bylaws.
Knowledge and experience with NCAA software and databases preferred.
