Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach/Assistant Track and Field Coach (Throws)
Washington and Lee University invites applications for the position of Assistant Strength and Conditioning/Assistant Track and Field Coach (Throws).
Founded in 1749, Washington and Lee is a highly selective, residential, coeducational, liberal arts university of 1850 undergraduate students located in the beautiful Valley of Virginia. Washington and Lee is a member of NCAA Division III, sponsoring 24 varsity sports and a charter member of the Old Dominion Athletics Conference (ODAC).
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt salaried position reporting to the Director of the Fitness Center/Head Coach of Strength and Conditioning and the Head Coaches of Men’s and Women’s Track and Field. Responsibilities include: assisting the Fitness Center Director/Head S&C Coach in all aspects of strength training programs for 24 varsity sports as well as providing all aspects of throwing event training and implementation; meeting the specific strength & conditioning needs for designated athletic teams; recruiting women and men student athletes for all throwing events; delivering specific training in S&C and track & field (throws) to meet the physical and mental developmental needs of each individual; meeting with coaches and student-athletes, devising all-encompassing full season training plans, implementing specific training plans for each throwing event, and assisting with home T&F meet management; traveling to all meets; assisting the Head T&F Coaches in upholding the respective program vision and mission statements and objectives; maintaining established goals of the T&F program(s) through regular meetings with head coaches; recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes who will be contributing members to the men's and women's T&F teams; meeting on a regular basis with throwers to assess personal, academic, and athletic growth; designing and implementing training programs for all throwing events; teaching proper execution, techniques, and safety for all S&C programs and throwing events; working directly with the athletic training staff to monitor rehabilitation programs and develop post-rehabilitation programs for throwers and student athletes in S&C programs; staying current on trends in T&F and S&C; participating in professional development; comply with all University, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of the Fitness Center/S&C Head Coach and track & field head coaches.
A bachelor’s degree, collegiate throws experience, and collegiate coaching experience, in both strength and conditioning and throws, or the equivalent of education and experience is required. An NCAA recognized strength and conditioning certification, along with a master’s degree, is preferred. Minorities are strongly encouraged to submit an application.
