Hiram College is seeking applications for the position of Director of Sports Information. Hiram College is a private liberal arts institution located in northeast Ohio. The College is a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III.
The Director of Sports Information is responsible for all aspects of media and sports information relating to the college’s intercollegiate sports; promotes the athletic program to students, parents, alumni, faculty, media and other constituencies; and complies and maintains participation records for athletes. This is a fulltime 12-month position, coordinating the internal and external communications of the athletics department. The SID will promote Hiram College athletics, teams and athletes in local, regional and national media as well as to other public audiences via print, radio, television and other electronic and social media outlets. The SID will also maintain the athletics web site and social media tools, keeping fans informed and generating increased fan involvement, including live stats and live streaming. The SID will ensure accurate statistics for all home games; organize direct, and staff contest event management for the functions of taking statistics; and exchange sports information with other institutions with whom Hiram College competes. Coordination of game management will also be a part of the SID’s duties, including hiring, training and assigning a graduate assistant, student workers, interns, and volunteers. Additionally, the SID will coordinate/supervise special events as assigned, including annual Day with Hiram Golf Outing and providing historical information for the annual Hall of Fame nomination committee, as well as assisting with the preparation for the Senior Student Athlete Banquet, including collating action shots/head shots for all senior student-athletes, producing event program, and other duties as assigned. The SID will report to the Director of Athletics.
Applicants must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong computer skills, including desktop publishing, internet web site maintenance (presto) and Statcrew/The Automated Scorebook statistical software packages. Previous experience dealing with the media on the local, regional, and national level is required. Candidate must be able to work extended and irregular hours including evenings and weekends, and be able to be on/in the competitive arena to record and report statistics, announce games, etc. General journalism and strong social media experience preferred.
