ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE AND PITZER COLLEGE: Pomona College, established in 1887, is the founding college of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate institutions and two graduate institutions in Claremont, CA, on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County. Pomona College has a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum spanning the arts, humanities, social sciences, math and sciences, emphasizing critical thinking and high impact practices. Pitzer College, established in 1963, was founded as an innovative liberal arts institution, initially specializing in social and behavioral sciences, but has since expanded to other fields. Pitzer’s academic programs emphasize social justice, intercultural understanding and environmental sensitivity. The 21 varsity Pomona-Pitzer Athletic teams comprise of students from both colleges, and compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the NCAA Division III. POSITION SUMMARY: The assistant coach will assist the head coach in all aspects of the Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Program for Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing/mentoring/coaching DIII Student Athletes, game and practice preparation, assisting with budgetary responsibilities which include recruiting/travel, managing equipment and other monetary expenses, recruiting potential student athletes, creating travel itineraries, scouting, film breakdown, compliance with college, conference, and NCAA rules, game management and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree; prior athletic participation in women's and/or men's water polo; and must be able to positively interact with and support a culturally, ethnically, economically and socially diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations; experience in women's and/or men's water polo as a player or coach at the college level; demonstrated ability to assist with coaching and recruiting quality student-athletes; public relations skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and excellent organizational skills.
REQUIRED HOURS: Weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the Colleges or division. Must be willing to work extensive weekend and evening hours.
